Well I have been thouroughly enjoying reading the threads of this site. Wow you guys have a lot of information. I have a 2003 F-250 XLT Diesel Super Duty and love it. I installed a Bully Dog Triple Dog and an AFE air intake about 8 months ago. Both improved horsepower and driveability more than I expected. Now the problem. I was receiving recall notices for about two years and just dismissed them because I was afraid they would change the performance of my truck. I finally relented and removed my bully dog and took my truck in for the O6E17 recall. What a mistake. Now I am hearing a blow back sound when I take my foot off the throttle. The EGR wont let the truck run so I disconnected it. took it back to the dealer, they couldn't find anything wrong so replaced the EGR valve. I had to disconnect it again just to get to church the next day. Should I just leave it disconnected or buy a new one to fake the computer? I have read previous threads about the same thing but don't understand the idea about installing a fake EGR. again everything was fine until the recall. Sorry this is so long. Have to go eat Easter dinner, will return in a few hours.:thanks

I just have mine unplugged. It's been that way for over a year now. Mine would act weird when it was hooked up as well. I think mine runs better with the 06E17 other than the EGR issue. But with it unhooked, no more problems.

What is a 06E17 recall???

I think (don't quote me) it only applied to 03-04 6.0 motors. Just a different programing sceme. Some say it wrecked their truck, other say it helped. My 03 ran better after the reflash. If it applied to you? You should have receive something in the mail last year.

Got home from work Monday and decided to remove the Bully Dog and AFE air intake system, plug electrical connection back into the EGR and take a test drive. Truck ran good. So I reinstalled the Bully Dog set it to extreme and left the AFE filter system off. The truck runs better than ever. Though before the recall (O6E17), the truck ran great with the Bully Dog and the AFE air intake system.

Posts: 260 To get around the EGR buy a second one (dummy EGR). Plug the connector into the dummy EGR and wire tie out of the way. To remove the throttle plate yopu need a magnetic tip. I think the 2 screws are torx, but can't remember the size. ISurvivedNMU, you might not even have the throttle plate. I'll have to do a search on the other site as somebody posted good directions on how to remove the throttle plate. Keith

The Ford tech that worked on mine said after 06E17 the motor and trans had to relearn. If that's the fact think about this. You remove your aftermarket, take it to the dealer, dealer flashes, truck relearns on your way home without aftermarket , you get home and reinstall the aftermarket, truck is now confused and running poorly. Try leaving all your after market on. With the tuner on stock disconnect both batteries, turn the lights on for 20 seconds to drain any voltage floating around in there, reconnect the batteries and let it relearn with your tuner. After driving a bit change the tuner to whatever setting you want.

just a little bit more...

i too am under the impression that it was a 'relearn' process.:sweet i am all stock so no issues w/ aftermarket...and i can not see a difference either b4 or after the flash..albiet i have had many flashes....:roflmao

but...i may be interested in unplugging the egr and test driving for better effects...

Just unplug the egr piece of s--t and call it a day. My 04 has been unplugged since 39 miles on odometer and now has over 165k, and the motor is still intact. Never been apart. Just my 2 cents.
