I'd check the coolant for combustion residue and also make sure your EGR cooler didn"t develop a crack before I threw up the white flag. Just my .02

i honestly dont think its the EGR cooler. i have been thru 3 already, and each time it puffed white smoke like crazy.

no white smoke so far.

my buddy at the ford dealer was able to pressure test the coolant system on his lunch break for me today.

the freakin coolant degaus bottle had a big ole crack in the bottom of it.

a 66.00 part will be here tomorrow.

and also, the 2008 tailgates will fit my truck, the only set-back is the cost of the one with the intergrated step and handle.

tailgate carcus = 255.00

step mechanism/components = 455.00

the handle alone = 100.00

SO, if i cant find one at a salvage yard, i will go with the no frills 2008 standard tailgate. it still looks better than the one i had.

its highway robbery on the tailgate. i asked the parts dude if he thought Ford jacked the price up because they anticipated owners would upgrade, he said he believed that to be the very reason.

well, since i am still young, i will probably just buy the plain jane 2008 tailgate. i like the looks of it alot better anyways.

them old fellers like powerboatr, JL, WD40, maxtor, they need them step tailgates so they can get in and out alot better, plus they got enuff dough layin around to handle the cost.

ive heard the 08 tailgate wont fit right (sticks out).

the ONLY way to determine if youve got a head gasket issue
is by testing the oil to determine if theres coolant in the oil
AND to sniff the degaus bottle for combustion gases.

beyond that youre left to pull the heads off and INSPECT
the gaskets signs of a leak.

it seems to mean if you had a head gasket leak you wouldnt
be seeing wet spots on the driveway....it seems to me youve
more likely got a LEAK (water pump ?)
