Sorry for the troubles.

I know that some 7.3s have lifted heads with the ARPs. Also they could never get a straight answer from ARP on what to torque them to.

H-11 studs are the way to go IMO. Gaskets...some have luck with Cometics. Personally if my heads are coming off they are getting cut for fire-rings.

thanks for the info rooster. the fire rings would be worth it, but i dont know who would do it around here where i live.

can you tell me what the diff. is in the H-11 and the ARP's?

Hey Stephen;

Sorry to hear about your troubles. It does sound like a head gasket. On Trucks TV show, I saw that they make three different aftermarket head gaskets for our 6.0 engines. Stock, 500 hp, and 750 hp versions. The 500 hp gasket did not have to be o ringed, just slip it in place of the oe gasket and all is good. I can't remember who made that gasket though... I will do some research on it.
It seems like when it rains, it pours. If it is a head gasket probelm, you might want to do studs like other earlier posts suggest and the 500 hp head gasket, and all should be fine. If it is a head gasket, they should be able to check the radiator for contamination. :sorry

Hey Stephen,,, Just found the website;

I had thought about buying a factory set and shipping them to the shop that just did the 'cryo treatment on my rotors. I mean, were talking about the threads/bolts stretching so if they were 3x as hard like the ARP's claim to be we could all get out of this mess for a FRACTION of the alternative cost. I'm going to contact my guy down in San Diego at CRYO SCIENCE and see what his thoughts are. I'd rather have a set in the garage waiting for when the old ones cut loose. Be back soon.

Sorry to hear about your truck, Stephen.

Bad things sometimes happen to good folks, it could be worse, you could be spending $$$ on a new engine.

As for the question about the tailgate, yes the tailgate will fit on the existing hardware of an earlier truck. HOWEVER...

Note the top of the tailgate on the 2008 is FLAT, unlike the earlier trucks where the top is ROUNDED. It's not much of a difference, but it would make a difference if you were using a tonneau or a topper. Some minor adjusting would be required.

If I find a 2008 all tore up in a salvage yard, but having a good tailgate, I will switch over myself. So what if I have to pay to get it repainted to match the Wedgewood Blue on the Beast.

Of course I can always 'forget' to lower the tailgate when hooking up the fiver. Just kidding.

you know i hate to hear it about a 6.0
but dayum dude you been pushing it hard :sly thats alot of coolant every week to be adding in, did your tailpipe smoke white, oil levels go up??

go with a new generation head and gaskets (commonality) its a better seal seal and fatter head bolts...it may not hold up to the sct though -popcorn
call froggy he can help

or do a rooster and go fire ringed
you may have to run over to florida (south) or texas to get er done :D

you pooped the tailgate on purpose :roflmao :roflmao

So you are telling me that the April DTOM winner has a totaled tailgate and is puking coolant :( I am thinking that this is not a good thing, I am glad I am not eligible for DTOM ;)

Since this is the second time you crunched the gate I think I would consider a fifth wheel type gate that doesn't need to be opened :sweet

That sucks Bama. How many hard miles do you have on it? Last thursday one of my 350 chevys blew a head gastket, but nothing uncommon there. I thought you were selling that trailer? Well good luck with the repairs.

Well.....it's raining here

literally. Sorry to hear Bama..go with the better HBs and gaskets if the budget allows.
I recall some clown forgetting to lock down the clip on a dragbehind trailer...at least that same clown remembered to set the safety chains and it only beat the heck of my bumper rather than hitting some other unsuspecting soul. )&^ happens it seems.
Good luck with the fix

that SUXS!. though i would not jump to the conclusion of the head gasket yet. remember there is the EGR cooler too!

as far as head studs and the like go, the manufacturer's websites are full of jargon and high brow tech sounding stuff which really amounts to nothing ('n i's got some of 'dem dar' letters after my name). bottom line, see what the repair folks suggest and go from there.

so take a DEEP breath and lets take it one step at a time.

Maxtor:
thanks, i will look at that site today.

Irish:
that may not be a bad idea to cryo treat the new head studs. thanks.

Ray:
i dont have a bed cover or topper, so the new tailgate would work fine for me.

Robert:
i have just been driving normal, nothing out of the ordinary. OH, and BTW, i did not crush the tailgate on purpose :tounge

Crummy:
dude, dont knock me down even more than i am right now. i can still represent SDD as the April DOTM. this is just one of those set backs that happens sometimes. this was the first time i hooked up in over a month. i was only helpin my cousin out, still no plans of goin back on the road. i still want to sell the trailer.

Fordtrucker:
i guess all the miles i have put on it have been running hard miles. i have never really babied it. it has always done me a very good job. its hard to say what really caused it, it could be the SCT or the Banks. i do understand that when you turn one up, things can happen, and i am OK with that. i have paid to play, and sometimes you go thru troubles when you do. my dad is an old drag racer himself, so he understands that and has been a big supporter of what i have done to my truck.

Nasty:
thanks for the support, i will try my best to get the best parts, if it is HG's afterall.

DP:
there is no white steam coming out the exhaust. i have allready been thru 3 EGR cooler replacements, so i dont think that is whats happening. BUT, it has been in the back of my mind. AND if that is what it turns out to be, i think i would still have the heads pulled and head studs installed too.
