your problem sounds like the failing egr valve i experianced.
erratic boost under load and higher egt's

as a test disconnect the egr valve (when the truck is off) and
then drive the truck and see how things are.

you guys REALLY need to check for codes...they go a LONG LONG
way in diagnosing problems.

Forgive me for sounding dumb, but there never is a dumb question. When you say codes you mean the trucks computer codes right!!! If this is true the only one on Gods green earth who can read the codes seems to be Ford on an 03. I feel everytime I head there I should just leave my pants at home . If you have any other suggestions to a way to read them I would love to here it...Thankss

not true...there are scanners out there that will read the codes,
run diagnostic tests and CLEAR the codes.

in 54k miles ive been to the dealer less than 4 times...TWO times
they actually FIXED the truck <one was a tranny recall> and the other
was for a bum egr valve.

I bought and used my copy of autoenginuity to diagnose and test
my failing egr valve...it took me all of about 1 hour to check for codes
perform the software/diagnostic tests and CONFIRM the problem (by
disconnecting the egr valve)...once i KNEW what the problem was
i Took it to the dealer & told them what the codes were (i didnt
clear them) and what needed to be replaced.

they had my truck 3.5 days, for trouble shooting and REPAIR !
they billed FORD <under my 3/36k warranty> more than 450 bucks
for a 150 dollar egr valve plus time.

I could have bought the same part on ebay <NEW, in the box> for
less than 75 bucks !

the painful tooth fighting arguments that we have w/ the dealers
makes the cost of the autoenginuity worth my time, trouble ALONE !

AutoEnginuity - OBD2 Scan Tool - Professional PC and PDA Diagnostics

for a list of the COVERED FORD systems & sensors click HERE

i bought my Autoenginuity from ITP Diesel and i GET UPDATES when
things CHANGE and i can even do some LIMITED scanning on our
other cars and ANY ford product -> Tools

Loud whistle

The loud whistle that you are hearing is coming from the antifreeze over flow bottle. Beleive me when I tell you this. If you keep towing your toy hauler and put the truck under a heavy load you will have problems especially on hills. My 04 is sitting in Pittsburg 5 1/2 hours away with blown head gaskets at 70000 miles. The month before the EGR cooler went. This comes from hauling heavy loads with these trucks. Ford knows about the problem and they dont do anything about because they cant.
I saw six in the dealership the with the same thing when I took mine in. Made me sick.
If you pop the hood and look across the over flow bottle you will see the cap leans forward. It is supposed to be perfectly level. This is where the whistle is coming from. Sooner or later this bottle will split on the seem right around the front of the bottle. Believe me I have seen it all. The tech. walked me around the service bay and showed me everything and every truck in there.
Kind of disturbing when you see the cab up on the lift and the frame and the motor on the floor.

So what do i have to do regarding the whistle out of the coolant bottle?Thoes that mean i need to get ready for blown head gasket?I have an 03 model and the only major headache is the injectors.Right now its actting up on the hwy. it bucks and jerks and i get black and white smoke out the pipe.Bush recomended to check the egr valve.I took it of and cleaned and replaced o-rings.It wasnt that bad as i thought it would be as far as been full of carbon.I even disconected the valve and she ran like a champ.I still have to get the codes just to make sure.

you gotta check for CODES before you continue to GUESS !
so w/ the egr disconnected it ran fine ?

once you get the codes then you can begin to troubleshoot it...
the egr doesnt have to be gunked up to fail <mine wasnt>.

as for blown head gaskets...theres only TWO ways to determine
a blow head gasket...coolant in the oil <blackstone-labs can test the
oil> and you can test the COOLANT for signs of combustion gasses.

the blackstone tests are 20 odd bucks...its cheap peace of mind
Blackstone Laboratories

a combustion gas tester retails for 38 bucks....so for less than 60 bucks
you can put your mind at ease on the head gasket issue.

So I guess that leaves another question. My 03 has 157,000 mls the only issue I had was 1 high pressure oil injector pump. This has been a great truck and it needs to last unitl Nov of this year thats when I get my new 350. I am thinking as we get more miles on us the truck and myself that is we are not as quick off the line. Could that be do to the EGR valve maybe? The trucks not Mine!

Surging and bucking and black smoke.

Looked back on my service records and they replaced the wiring pigtail to the IRP sensor and that fixed the problem. I think it is the harness that is right up by the cow of the truck and there was a screw that was through the cow to hold a bracket or something and it was down into the harness and shorting it out.
If you are puking white smoke you have a bad EGR cooler or you have a leak in one of your head gaskets. EGR cooler failer is caused by a clogged oil cooler or failing oil cooler. Once the egr cooler goes the engine overheats and stretchs head bolts and there goes the head gasket. If the gasket blows in a certain spot it builds pressure in the coolant system and that is what the whisle is from. Ford tech showed me on my truck and others. Plan and simple.

I have attached this website with all the problems with the 6.0 diesel. I don't mean to bum alot of people. But you all have to see how Ford is ****ing us. They know about these problems and they are not doing anything about it. Slapping back together and sending you on your way.

Okay... I'm starting to look at this from 95 Stoker's point of view... Coderis, what exactly is your point in joining this thread? You've added nothing but conjecture and confusion. You might have a bad truck, and that's too bad. But for the rest of us who experience no problems or just the regular run of the mill problems, I think we're pretty happy.

Beat your drum someplace else...

sorry you see it that way...but honestly i cant put a lot of stock in
what youre saying...mostly cause youre bitter and angry...and you
apparently dont WRENCH...

at this point youre starting to remind me of my ex-wife...you just wanna
*****...sorry but this web forum (like many) is here to help people that
wanna be helped.

if all the problem is that the DEGAS bottle & cap are leaning, why not
just level the bottle ??? I mean hey you seem to have found the problem
why dont you FIX the bottle w/ some shims...
