my question would be is it REALLY the turbo...'specially on
such a new truck...what was the truck doing that caused
you to take it in ?

BUT....they should be able to pull the old turbo & install a new
one in 1/2 a day at the most.

Speaking from experience....

It definately may be the turbo. Mine went bad at 57k.

You're right about the 1/2 day to install the new turbo. Here's the problem: there is such a demand for 03 turbos that Ford is backlogged a week--and that's with express overnight shipping. For me, the first "new" turbo was bad. Yep, you guessed it, had to wait ANOTHER week for ANOTHER turbo. This time it worked fine, but it was in the shop for a solid two weeks.

Hopefully Ford isn't as backlogged now as they were then, but be prepared. If it's taking awhile, it probably isn't your dealers fault.

what exactly was wrong w/ your turbo @ 57k miles ?
and what did they say was wrong w/ the replacement turbo...
aside from the VGT vanes & the bearings theres NOTHING to go
wrong w/ the turbo...its about as simple a mechanical device
that anyone could build

Geez, are you trying to make me show my ignorance here?

I was getting an exceptionally loud clanging noise under the hood. Can't remember what codes I was getting, but Ford said the turbo was bad. If I kept it under 1000 on they pyro (with trailer), it seemed to be okay. Above that, or if I'd stop pulling for a piss break or something, as soon as I jumped back on the interstate I'd have a problem. It was fine without a trailer. Hills were problematic.

After the turbo was replaced, it ran better, but not perfect. I'm talking going from about 40% to 98%. Big improvement.

Now, quit making me drudge up memories I'm trying to forget!;)

sorry bruce...

i have a theory that these turbos havent actually be going bad...rather
its a lack of knowledge/poor tech training....i believe its been a lack of
understanding of how the EBP,VGT & EGR all work together.

we'll see...mines in the shop now too...but i know the problem & codes...
theyre still testing...

Mine went bad at about 5000 miles! This was after they replaced my VGT,and my EBP sensor. I'm just going off what the dealer told me, don't know why they said it was bad, but the new turbo fixed me right up, truck runs great!

You may be on to something. I think they may have decided it was the turbo based on all the 03 turbo's going bad....or getting blamed for going bad. All's I know is they replaced the turbo and it runs much better. It's also possible that they fixed something else in the process, possibly inadvertantly. :dunno

I thought there were numerous turbo problems on the 03's? I cant imagine mama Ford not having their techs properly trianed to the point of throwing 2500-3000 dollar turbos at a EBP,VGT,EGR issue? I mean I know that some really dumb stuff can happen at a dealership, but I would think that mama Ford would eventually say, whoa guys, its not turbo troubles.:dunno
