My last weight check I was 4387 with no fresh water or black or gray. I don't tow with fresh water or the other. I dump them just to loose the extra weight.

first thing you do, get it scaled.

THEN we figure out how much tire you're going to need.

I had a guy come through one year. bitching up a storm about his Marathons.. I asked him, how heavy is the unit?
"Title weight is..."
I cut him off and told him to run down the highway to the next exit and get it CAT scaled.
Long story made short, as he was hauling, he was 2,600lbs OVER what the tires were rated at.

Wasn't guna post this but..Prolly Trailer Tire Related.

On our way home from the mountains Monday.. 'bout a 1/2 mile in-front of us.. saw a big puff of blue smoke from the right side of a Toy Hauler.. rubber flying.. it swung to the right.. swung way wide to the left, and flopped over on its left side... Jack-knifed... purdy much on the shoulder. Truck mostly in a ditch.

We stopped (on the other side of it all). Everyone was Okay, no injuries. CHP happened to see it all happen also.. from the north bound side. A DRW Dodge was up on two wheels, frame tweaked at about 30*, 5th wheel hitch partly broken loose, pin box twisted too.. but the Dodge stayed basically up-right.

Both right side Hauler tires had basically exploded. CHP wouldn't let anyone get in the Hauler 'til the Fire Dept got there but the driver said there was 2 ATV's & 3 Dirt bikes inside, and 4 gas jugs.

Fire Dept arrived. Gave my info to the CHP. We left. The rubbernecker/looky lou'z were tying up traffic.

Kinda spooky this Thread came Up ????

He probably had Carlisles on his trailer...

;) Coulda been.. wasn't enough left of either to tell. The Bead, some wire and parts of the inter carcase :dunno

I kinda expected a call from someone.. about it all, but the CHP officer saw it all happen too. Prurdy obvious what happened I think.

I can't remember ANYONE having anything much Good to say.. about those tires.. through the years. :(

IIRC, I think the NTSB was on Goodyear's case about those original Marathon trailer tires.. they came up with a "New and Improved" tire because of it. They were PDQ about replacing all 5 of mine.. payed for the RV damages too, no questions asked.

Maybe they'll get on Carlisle (Kelly Springfield ?) :dunno

Kelly is Kelly..
Carlisle is Carlisle..
I work for G3 (Goodyear/Dunlop/Kelly)..

Carlisle contracts the warranty admin through Goodyear's Customer Service Dept, so that's where the 800-321-2136 number comes from..

as far as the Marathon's go.. they've been through about five upgrades since I came to work for them.. the worst ones were the originals, the ones made in Fayetteville.. one thing I know for sure, is there is two different types of construction and they have different material numbers..
the "TTC" tires are for travel trailers only, the other material number is for boats, etc.

I just looked up the engineering data.. you're under spec by nearly 900lbs.

Either need to go to a Load D tire (not likely in your size) or go up. How much room ya got in the wheel well?

I have good luck so far with some LT235/85/16E BFG Commercial tires on my 35' 5er toy hauler. 80 PSI tire rated at 3042 lbs per tire on tandem axles. Curb weight of 8320, GVWR 13.3K. Starting to get close to 5 years old now so probably need to be saving for another set. I also really need to get it on a scale as we carry 3 ATV's and up to 110 gallons of water into the hills and may be cutting it close. Not sure how much of the weight is on the axles vs the fifth wheel? The tires seem to be holding up well and IIRC they were reasonably priced (Sam's). I have gone through a few blowouts with the Carlisles on my boat trailer and need to find something better there.

Fortunatly I have not had any issues with trailer tires.... but one trailer is so old it has ancient BIAS Ply tires on it..... and my flatbed with 4.80x8's seem ok.... but I do not think they are carlile.....

Never had and issue on the camper either... but I always keep them aired up.... to max pressure... which helped with the sway, and handling in general.....

I have even read complaints about some of the carliles that are garden tractor tires also... dont want to seal... can't keep air in them.... a tire coming apart "at speed" on a garden tractor going less than 10 mph is nohing like an RV at 65..... but a bad tire is a bad tire.... period.....
