Mine is near the same rig as what you are looking at.
~18mpg empty, ~8-11 pulling 12K trailer with the tow/haul on.
8 in rolling hills, 11 on flats around 62mph
Never pulled a small trailer....

Whatever you do, DONT CHANGE A THING!!!! That is excellent mileage, especially your city avg.

I get 8.5-9.5 towing 10K 5th wheel @ 65-70 MPH. I just installed a superchips and running in tow safe mileage empty went from 15 to 22 on the highway. However i have just been informed the tuner screws with the mpg's given by the overhead display............figures.

mileage

I have averaged 18.5 mpg (empty)since buying the truck. I have 3400 miles on it. Most of my driving is in town and when on the freeway i cruise at 70 mph @ 1950 rpm. I hear that you can expect better mileage after about 12000 miles. I think the manual trans. and 70psi in the tires makes a difference on fuel mileage.
When pulling a trailer I got 15.8 mpg. That was up and down hills.

Milege

I am getting about 13 in the city, and about 12.2 towing. Is this normal? I only have 1700 miles on it, so it may go up.

I just drove from OR to OK and through Yellowstone over the continental divide a few times. I was towing an 83 MB Diesel Wagon on a tow dolly behind me (approx 4500 I think) and got 18.1 mpg. I traveled around 72MPH the whole way. I never really am able to check the milage much as I run WVO a lot of the time but the first time I did check it on Dino I got 21mpg on the highway so I'm very pleased. I thought I must have misplaced a receipt but I checked them all over and they appear to be here. Besides maybe adding a downpipe I don't think I'm going to be changing anything either. I couldn't have imagined the fuel bill if I was getting in the low teens.

fuel prices at 3.259 per gallon

I just filled up today from a 251 mile trip. Normally I get 18+ at 2000 rpm, but this trip I kept it at 80 mph for a test. I got 17.24 mpg. The best way to check your mileage is to run a couple hundred miles and then divide the gallons used into the miles driven. Example 251.1 miles driven 14.559 gallons used= 17.24 mpg. By driving at 80 mph, instead of 70 mph, I lost 1.5 mpg because normally I get 18.5 to 18.8 mpg at 70 mph empty. I would like to test the mpg at 60 mph, but in my area, 60 mph will get you killed. Also, the rpms at 60 mph will be around 1714, which might lug the engine. Every direction except south is up hill.
Going south at 60 mph will get you run over by the big rigs in the slow lane.
So maybe one of you guys in the midwest and flat (Texas) could make that test.
You guys that are getting 20+ miles per gallon, that is great....
I've heard that some of the 7.3 Fords are getting 20+, but us 6.0 Fords are getting around 18 mpg.

I am glad that other people with the 7.3 are getting just over 20MPG as well. At first I thought I was crazy or that something was off on my spedo/tac but I check it all the time with the signs on the road and calulate it with my watch as well and it is right on.

yes that the last trip was 2444 miles and I used 131 gallons and about 4 gallons of WVO that I found hiding in my dads garage that I had stored on a trip down that way before. It is to bad that I didn't have more of it. Not just that it would have been cheaper but it sure makes the ride a lot nicer. Not so much drone and pre-ignition noise. The driver fatigue greatly increases without it.

gonna ask a dumb question. what is WVO?

i just drove about 1300 miles in the last 3 days and got 13.2 mpg. about 400 miles were dead head miles (no freight, just pullin an empty trailer).
