I assume youve seen THIS PUBLICATION? It shows a cut away of a HPOP, and it doesnt look all that tricky, but I believe what you say about it being a real bitch to tear apart.

What are the benefits of me bing a late 95? Hopes of having the 96-97 drain back system? How do I tell the difference between the 94-95's and the 96-97 system?

I think (and I do mean think) that some of the late 95's had the updated front covers on them. I'll try and do some research to find out if there was a cut off by Engine Ser # or not.

Cool, I know that the pump on my truck is a reman unit already, but that was done before I became the owner.

take a visit to the dealer and ask them there should be a SN Cutoff for the newer style HPOP that hopefully will show up in their computer

I thought model year build dates started in august of each year which would make mike's technically a '96 truck?

Checked it again, its an August 95 built truck. Engine serial number looks to be an early one too, 200834. (SN # taken off sticker on front of HPOP)

You serial number is on a flat pad on the block in front of the oil cooler. You can read it by getting under the engine and looking around the front of the cooler if I recall.

There is a way to tell if you have the early front cover..

According to Nit on TDS:
"if you have a tube on the drivers side back of the reservoir cast into the cover then it is a late one, shows as a slight hump out and the reservoir has a hole in the edge. there may be a pic in my stuff to see it better."
TDS thread

I have been running for almost 6 months without a pre-oiler, so it is not a huge problem, it is just a bit harder to start when it has sat for more than 3 days.

Good luck!
