i found the only way to accurately diag where my leak was coming from was to power wash the valley until it sparkled, dry it off with rags, and i started it and ran it at 2000rpms for about a minute. i looked and saw a 2" stream coming from the pump.

I did it a bit differently. I used old rags and a split in half wooden paint mixing stick to mop up the fuel in the valley and under the fuel bowl. Then I sprayed the area with brake cleaner. Then I added this to the tank and drove it. Then with a black light the leak was very simple to locate and recheck once fixed.

It helped me locate the leak at the fuel drain. Once apart I called Ford and International for two 202 o-rings but they wouldn't sell them without a complete drain housing. So I drove all around town in a gasser looking for Viton 202 rings which I never located so I settled on what I found ...rubber. The leak has stopped but I fear they won't last so I ordered a pack of 25 Viton 202 orings from McMaster-Carr for next time...but I'll only need two. :thumbs

Just lost a pump also. Its a weep hole leak.
Could the short life come from the use of ULSD?
Pump is a year old!

i think ULSD has a lot to do with it, seeing as my pump and hoses went all within a month or two after the "switch over".

of course it could be totally coincidental, but i think its the fuel.:rant

Anybody have any advise b/4 I start tearing it appart and replacing the fuel pump. It looks like I am going to need a few tools I dont own. Not unless I take off the turbo.
Thanks

its not fresh in my mind, but i think everything was fairly basic. turbo stays on!!! silicone spray will help you get those hoses popped on (they all go in different directions, and need to go on at the same time...its a pain in the hockey pucks if those hoses are dry)

ok guys, well im having the same type of problem on my '02. a few months ago i had hell getting the fuel filter cap and o-ring to seal. finally did and now i smelled diesel today and had a look under the hood. everything is bone dry under there, but when I get under the truck, there is diesel EVERYWHERE. it seems to be in the same spot where fuel would run down when i open the drain valve. is this the drain valve leaking? how hard is it to replace the valve?

please help as this is quite aggrivating to have a leak

Just change the o-rings in the valve. I forget what size they are but they are cheap compared to a new valve.

edit : Click for picture and o-ring size.

i had the same problem about 6 months ago. It ended up being the fuel pump that sits in the valley. If it leaks it is designed to drain out the back side of the valley. Reminded me of the weep hole on water pumps. it took me a while to figure out what it was.

You guys sre RIGHT ON THE MONEY as usual ! !
It was the fuel pump in the valley on the engine. The guy at our local parts store said they are known for that. Thank you AGAIN ! ! ! You guys are awesome. You save me A LOT of time !
:thanks :thanks :thanks :thanks :thanks :thanks
