Just saw the latest "cover my ass" commercial from Mr. Ford. Guy should run for Senate. JMO.

Would love to be reading his mind why he's saying that crap, "(well, im basically firing 25,000 to 30,000 people, ruining their lives, closing factories and possibly causing permanent damage to their towns, but.....)"

Anyone else see it? -popcorn

I somewhat agree with that, attrition will surely account for some of the numbers, but there is also 12-14 plant closures invovled with this too.

plants being closed is bad for the local economy i agree
but we go through it with each BRAC round.
folks get yanked and banked and bases close, then a big empty base is left standing , thats hard on a community to handle , the military has to make big deals to turn over the property and ensure its SAFE, (hazmat, etc) ford doesnt do that now, they may be forced to in the future. or keep em open enough to stay out of hazmat hot water

hopefully the plant re-alignment will move teh folks to other plants if needed.
we got a huge old ford glass plant here , empty as as the batcave and falling down.... Ford still owns it, its to hazardous to turnover

:sorry
since some will get mad at me....
know why ford chevy and others are leaving the northern assembly areas
UNIONS
alabam continually gains manufacting and assembly plants due to lower cost of living, lower taxes, less union OVERINFLUENCE.
MB, hyundia, toyota , nissan, funny foriegn guys find it cheaper to build here ( tn, al, ms)and we find it cheaper to build in mexico, whats wrong wit that statement

Haven't seen it though I'm in Atlanta where they are closing the Hapeville plant. And then GM is closing their plant on the other side of town. I don't think you could do anything PR related in Atlanta that wouldn't get shot down so I figure they aren't even trying.

"As far as what will happen to the 117 acres that make up the Hapeville assembly line, top developers say 80 of those acres are excellent for residential and mixed use development, 11Alive's Bill Liss reported. One developer is already planning to building 1,000 condos on property next to the plant."
