I was looking on Dieselsite.com and saw a conversion for a pre-Dec/98 to a 99.5 turbo. Mine was made in Sep 98, so how is it different from later models and how is this going to affect my aftermarket part selection/choices?
Thanks,
Jesse

I was confused about this too... I had no idea there was a half/year split (although I should have, when the brake rotors I got from Bubba Zone for a '99 were incorrect, and the rotors for the double-oughts fit)...

the helpful guys here tell me that the turbochargers have a different wheel configuration; the early turbo has better wheels, but the late turbo has the better housing. Must have something to do with cfm rates vs. wheel speeds...

My guess is the problem you are referring to about 99 rotors are not fitting your truck has nothing to do with early99 and 99.5

In 99 ford made two different f250's. Light duty and super duty. the F250 light duty has the body of the f150s. It seems everytime i go to a parts store to get something for my 99 nothing fits because the parts catalogs dont reflect this sometimes.

Just last week i ordered a drivers side window motor and it didnt fit. Catalog showed that it fit a 99 f250. Told parts store of this (light duty and super) and they looked at another catalog and it showed a different window motor for the light duty and super duty. Both f250's.

Hope this helps somewhat. I always tell parts stores of this to make sure before i wait 2 days to recieve a part that doesnt fit. then have to wait a weekend for the correct part.

on edit: just did a google search and they only made the light duty f250 for 97-99. This is why when you ordered the parts for a 00 f250 they fit becasue there was not light duty to get confused with.

Someone suggested that I get a Wicked Wheel, but I read somewhere else that a Wicked Wheel is just an early 99 impeller...anyone in the know care to comment?

yes you already have the WW. Your intake ducts are smaller, turbo is smaller, airbox is different and you have slighlty smaller injectors.

greeeeat. So I need a 99.5+ turbo housing, inj, and pcm and I'm set? or will I not need the pcm if I go with a tune? Are the cold-side pipes the same size?
Thanks,
Jesse

Nope, you need the whole 99.5+ turbo, up-pipes(v-clamp instead of T-4 flange) and Y-piece. Intercooler tubes are the same I believe. PCM would help with tranny shifting parameters. Injectors aren't that much bigger on the later models, so if you did them you'd prolly want to get some modded ones.

When I upgraded the F450 I replaced

Up pipes
Turbo
Pedistal
Y-pipe
Intake manifolds
HPOP
Injectors
PCM

I think that is most of it :thumbs
