Not saying the gas companies are angels but the Gas company's make .08 cents a gallon while the goverment makes an average of .16 cents a gallon with the tax imbeded in the price. -mad

I also thing they use the price of Diesel to keep the price of gasoline down. I've noticed when gas goes down in my area diesel goes up.

More gassers than diesels?

School busses, public transportation, construction equipment, agriculture equipment, OTR trucks that transport your food, socks and underwear. Yes there are more gassers purchased and driven daily but I tend to believe diesel engines are running more hours of the day than the gassers. Not to mention the diesel that other countries burn for electricity or home heating oil which is very similar to diesel.

Oh and BTW...some states have had ULSD for a couple years now and has slowly been phased in by the industry.;) We don't really have anything to complain about....look at other country's fuel prices.

This young'n is done with this one have a good day.

Again, they want to make the most money they can, and they have done a very good job of it.

and they do this in a FREE economy...if it were your company would
you want your profits limited or taxed because you made "more money"
than some one thought you should ?

its simple, dont drive, use public transportation, buy a hybrid, motorcycle,
bicycle, rollerblades or nikes...theres LOTS of stuff anyone can do to
reduce their consumption...

what i dont get is why arent there federal investigations on the price
of milk, oj, or worse yet...STARBUCKS...theres a hell of a lot more profit
in a gallon of any of those than there is gasoline...and it sure doesnt
take anything to refine milk...god knows it doesnt take MILLIONS of
dollars to find milk in a cow either !

69% of our crude has to be made available to the US under the NAFTA deal. Ottawa has a surcharge in Federal tax excised against the crude producing provinces to help the have not Provinces. My home province has 3% surcharge on every barrel sold over top of the provincial pump tax collected on distilled product.

Albertans are paying .96 cents a litre while Eastern provinces are paying .90 cents. I live 120 miles from the biggest potential reserve in the world and can drive a stick in the ground on either of my 2 quarter sections and come up with crude or coal. I don't have mineral rights so big deal.

As an oil producing Province I don't like paying some of the highest prices in Canada but I enjoy walking less. However, my Province is debt free, the roads aren't too bad and everyone who wants to work can.

So I say, park combines manned with farmers loaded up on potato mash around Alberta, sell Canada, it's too big to drive across anyway. Opt out of NAFTA, buy out the oil infrastructure from the US and go into the oil business for ourselves. We can't be any greedier than what's out their now.

At least it's a plan, :sly even if it is tongue in cheek.

Well living in houston the benefits of higher fuel cost does help the
economy...profitable companies TEND to hire & spend money on R&D
(computers, software, equipment & consulting).

All good points

Every company needs to make a profit. My surgeon told me that the components in my hip cost $200 to make. The company sold them to my insurance company for $7,500. That is a nice profit. Also it is the American way for oil companies to conspire as an industry to get as much money as they can.
They will only raise prices to a level that we can pay. When they reach that level, they will reduce the price so that they can continue to sell fuel.
Fuel is a necessity, milk and coffee are not. Of course my wife would disagree with that statement. Without her morning coffee, my life would be hell.
What ticks me off is that some people buy into the oil companies story, not that prices are to high to afford. We are older, and have a good retirement, but some of the young people just starting out, with young children and a low paying job, are going to find it hard to make ends meet. Do you buy gasoline or the babies formula?
Now I will get off my soap box. .
This is one of the few topics that gets me riled.

I'm in no way endorsing the outrageous diesel prices...BUT...remember when they started using MTBE in gas, the price skyrocketed. Big oil claimed that the cost of re-tooling their refineries warranted the price spike. Then another price spike to re-tool to remove it. I see a correlation here with them having to re-tool for ULSD. I find it hard to believe there is collusion to "rape" the public in areas with a high amount of diesel pickups because there are big rigs everywhere (they're screwing everybody equally). The problems as I see them are high fuel taxes, (which never trickle down for road repair), uncertain oil futures and the lack of home grown biodiesel nationwide. Increasing biodiesel production and making it available at service stations will eventually drop its price and will then drop the demand for #2 which will hopefully drop as well. In California, B99 and B100 are only available to those who sign a BUG (biodiesel users group) agreement with the coop or private group they buy from.

Ah, to be free of foreign oil. Thank you Rudolf Diesel and your peanut oil too.

Do you think sulfur just extracts itself? Back when diesel didn't have to be as refined maybe you could make that statement.

With more people driving diesels increases demand, increases price. Remember, anything you purchase was at one point or another transported by something that burns diesel.

And before I get flamed, no I don't agree that the oil companies should be making record setting profits.

:soap

yeh didnt think much bout that....:sorry but still it dont need to be so high!:thumbs
