Seriously bummed out.
2004 F350 Crew Cab DRW 70000 miles
So many problems with it, it would take me to long to type. Last month the EGR cooler went and basically steam cleaned the top of the motor and sent all the antifreeze out the tail pipe. Got that fixed, and last week, going out to Pittsburg blew the head gaskets while towing my 33 ft. fifth wheel. That is still sitting in Pitt. along with the truck. Now that is two times that antifreeze has gotten down in the motor. These trucks have aluminum heads. Hate to think what they look like?
As I type this my truck is sitting there with the cab off of it and they are just going to flush the motor and slap the heads back on.
Got alot of info from the the ford tech in or around Pitt. There are major design problems with these trucks and ford is keeping a pretty tight lip on it. I am sure a lawyer would like to hear some of it.
Why do you think they redesigned the motor and the truck around it for 08'?
Can you say really screwed up.
No wonder they are in a law suit with Navistar International about warranty clames.
Does anyone know of a class action suit going on????
Need anyones help on getting on one or starting one.
Ford knows about the problem and they are ignoring it!!!!!
Help Please.

Seems to be 03 / 04

I know plenty of people that have 04 / 05 that dont have problems either. But I must have gotten one with a bumm motor and alot of other people. Not to mention the 6 other ones sitting in the dealership along with mine with the same problem. The service tech. took me around and showed me all of them while they were sitting in peices with the same exact problem. Bodies off and torn down to bare block. Scored cylinder walls and everything. Big wake up call for me.
Dont get me wrong when the truck runs it kicks ***** and I love it when it runs. But when it is sitting in at Ford dealer once a month with another problem and another 100.00 dollars out of my pocket it gets to be alittle much to take.
If you do alot of towing in real big hills that is what they see. I cant argue with proof and I have seen it.
Pittsburg is one big hill after another and that is what kills them when towing.
Tech. told me you can drive these trucks without a load anywhere any place without a load and you will never see a problem. Hook a 33' ft. fifth wheel on it and go drive in the hiills and put a load on them and see what happens.
I didn't post this to bash ford owners because I have only had fords since I started driving and I have had good luck with them.
A diesel motor is supposed to last longer than 70000 miles. Go to this website and read this short article and it says it all. Ford knows about the problems and they are doing nothing about it. If anyone else has problems get in touch with me.

some interesting quotes from the link above....

The 6.0L Power Stroke, which is built by supplier International Truck and Engine Corp., has been partially redesigned, though still remains an extremely complex unit that technicians are struggling to deal with.

ive said it before a LARGE part of the problem is the TRAINING or LACK
of training <in reality> that the TECHS are getting...they dont understand
this complex motor (egr, vgt, ebp) and it shows in their multiple rip & replace
of the same parts over and over in the SAME trucks.

Ford has issued 77 technical service bulletins for the Power Stroke diesel since 2002, while in comparison GM has issued only eight for its Duramax diesel and Dodge has issued none for its diesel powerplant.

interesting quote...since the 6.0 wasnt even available until mid year 03...

I didn't see the problem coming

The first sign of this happening is when the fan is running alot without towing or towing a white smoke pouring out of it every once in a while. Beleive me I wish I was one of the lucky ones with a bullet proof motor.
Looking at some old threads on here with high EGT. And where is my coolant going. They might want to get it to a dealership to put dye in it and check the oil.
If it is the EGR cooler it will come out of the tail pipe and it smokes like a bandit.
Take a look at your over flow bottle for the antifreeze and if your cap leans forward you might have problems down the road. The cap is supposed to be level if you look across it. Let me know.

Some of this is true.

Some of the mechanics you talk to do not know what they are talking about and they will tell you but there are some out there that are really sharp. For the 6.0 coming out in late 03, My dad bought his at the end of 02' and had nothing but problems with it and got rid of it right away. Thats why I waited to 04 to get one and I thought they would have the problems fixed. I guess I was wrong.
Do some searches on the engine from google 6.0 ford diesel problems. You can find as many as you want.
I do have some faith in the guys working on now so I have my fingers crossed.

almost seems like they should stop messing w/ the heads and replace
the BLOCK too.

im curious...are you STOCK ? running any mods ?

have to say im not a huge fan of class actions...the folks
who do see any money in class actions arent the ones who
deserve the compensation...in my opinion.

Totally stock

I am afraid to change anything in fear that it would void the warranty. I have been in so many dealerships you never know if they will say you did something to it and it void the warranty.
Tried the new engine theory. You know what I heard out of Ford. NOTHING
Dealer told me that they are putting it back together and sending me on my way. That is what Ford told them on all of them.
The Tech. told me and showed me alot of things that I am keeping to my self until I talk to a lawyer.
