agreed...but im telling you the motorcraft (oem btw) & fram filters
at walmart are EXACTLY the same...neither has a name stamped on
'em...they are marked the same...pat. number etc...and at 19 & 15
bucks (respectively) theyre a LOT less expensive than the 39 bucks
a dealer charges for the SAME (motorcraft) filter !

We have a similar thing with the filters we get from Mahle in Germany that are the same as the OEM ones from BMW. I think I will need to check out the Fram next time.
Thanks,
Chris

This might piss you guys off but I went to Jiffy Lube and watch there everystep changing my oil! They put 14.5quarts of Delco Chevron oil and it only cost me $57.00 out the door! I looked at the filter they used and matched it to mine look the same to me, I just dont remmember the Mfg. But i thought the price was great for my oil change 6.0 diesel. I had no problems!

doesnt piss me off...but id be willing to bet someone didnt
charge you right...4yrs ago the dealer was getting 120 bucks.

and even my dealer didnt do the 1st <free> oil change right...put too
much oil in.

id NEVER trust a "quick" lube...you MUST compare the filters VERY
closely (there should NOT be a plastic inner core) and there should be
no STEP in the top...there should also be a FELT gasket on the bottom...
accept NOTHING ELSE.

compare them side by side on sitting on a table so you can see the
"step" in the top, and flip 'em and compare the inner core...there should
be nothing but pleated filter material visable...NO tube plastic w/ holes
in or otherwise.

no rubber gaskets on the bottom either...yellow FELT ONLY.

x2 for Bush's post. Some of us bought "OE Spec" oil filters off ebay and they folded up like a cheap suit. Never again!

I'm going to start changing my own oil as well and have been looking at the Fumoto drain valves.

I have a 08 F350CC does anyone know if I should by the valve with or without the nipple?

Thanks in advance,

Get the one with the nipple if you are going to drain your oil using a hose into a container with a small opening. Get the one without the nipple if you are going to drain the oil into a large pan.

I saw the TS oil, must admit it is a good price, never tried it using Rotella T 15w40. Who makes the diesel oil for TS?
TSC oil (Travellers) is made by Warren Distribution:sweet

Blackstone gives Travellers very high marks at least in my samples:sweet

I have been using Rotella 15W40 for years. and Motorcraft filters also. But once i return from Korea i will be using the same filters but changing to a different oil. Schaeffers 9000 full synthetic 5W40. I have heard nothing good about this oil and their products are rated up near the tp with the best. check it out sometime.

Ok just got my Fumoto Drain Valve in the mail. I'm going to try my first oil chage. I'm in Kansas City and was wondering what weight oil should I use?

Also does anyone know of a good place around here to pick up Mobil Delvac oil? I've looked at WallMart and Advanced Auto Parts and neither one had it.
Or is the Rottela just as good? I thought that I read where the Delvac was a true synthetic?

Also what size socket do I need to get the filter off?
It's a 08 6.4L

Thanks in advance,

try costco...they carry both rotella and delvac...youll need about 14qts
(NOT 15).

buy your filters at walmart (fram or motorcraft) for about 15 bucks.

run what the book calls for (weight & temp wise)....i dont know what
the 6.4 calls for...i run 15w40 (rotella) cheapest ive found it is @ costco.

some have had good results w/ TRAVELERS brand, available from tractor
supply (and its been getting good reports from the oil samples/testing)

I dont own these (below)...but i am a sucker for tools :sly
i use an an old inch drive socket set that i own...but i think these
are good tools...quality wise & the price isnt too bad either.

the one "ford" oil socket will <reportedly> also fit the TWO fuel
filter caps that youll be servicing too...

Thanks for the info.

I ended up getting the oil from Oreilly I bought 4, 1gallon jugs of Delvac for 11.99 a jug.

Forgive me I'm stupid when it comes to this stuff.
On the oil filter is all that I have to do is change the element?
Is there no other filter where you change out the whole oil filter?
This is new to me and this has me a little confused.

Thanks in advance,

-Boots
