oldest daughter works at a fast food joint..
petroleum diesel is like, real expensive...

if I'm able to talk her boss into his old fryer oil..
can I just filter the french fries out of it and drop it in the tank (five gals at a time) with 20 or so gallons of diesel fuel, or does it need to be treated?

I have a friend who has done this. He has filtered the oil down several times, then into the tank it goes. I don't know enough to recommend it, but it can be done....

Hey JL, I know Powerboatr does this with the peanut oil he has used to fry his turkeys during the holidays.

I think he used a 2 micron filter and runs it thur several times.

yep
sure do
works out to be about B12 :sly
word of caution
I know the source and what was put in it, no harsh chemicals or caustics, just dead turkey, lil seasoning and oil.

biggest thing is oil free of them harsh cleaning chemicals and OVEN cleaner degreasing stuff.
my mom had some degreaser for the bbq trailer that would flat melt paint and oil in an instant, i would hate to get that in my engine.

I use to run oil like that. I would fill up and us 10 gallons of oil. Loved it idled quiter and just felt like it ran smoother. Just keep and eye on your fuel filter.

Robert are you blending during the winter in a single tank? For someone who has a converted truck, the idea of blending and running cold WVO makes me cringe. More power to ya if it works.

richard
in the winter i usually drop down to near b5, i got worried last year when it was so cold and i had some fuel delivery issues.

but during the warmer months i have had no issues, other than one filter change out from some gunk left over from alabama.

right now i have about 15 gallons of peanut oil filtered and ready to go but again its a little chilly to just pour it in.
i need to get off teh $$ and buy a second tank with a warmer and do it right.

the biggie here is supply of quality product vs the new equipment.
so far i know the source of the oil and i dont put anything in it cept turkeys

if i start getting it from outside sources then its going to be the full blown , reactor, filter, and warm set up.
these fuel systems are to $$ to screw em up. sorry if i was vague to all who asked.:sorry
again i only use oil that i have purchsed new for frying turkeys.

or a source of blended from a truck stop like bio willie and the like.

My cousin makes biodesiel in a converted tractor trailor that was shortend to about 24'. He knows lots about this and says ther is a fat called glyceren (i cant spell) in veg oil and it is very thick. thick enough to possibly cause problems with injecters. When u make proper biodiesel this fat is what they are trying to get out of there. To run 100% vegtable oil, all u need, i think, is larger injecters, like really big! But penut oil is what the first diesel engine was running on. I don't think that penuts have any of that bad glyceren.
