What about the commercial E2, E10 whatever? Does that run ok in a 6.0 psd?
My next trip crosscountry this spring I may run into the blends.

"E" anything cannot be run in a diesel. Ethanol blends are meant to mix in the gassers.

You can run a biodiesel. B2 for example is 2% biodiesel and 98% #2 diesel. I am not sure how high the 6.0 guys run it but I am sure someone will be here soon.

i have used B5 TO B20 in my truck...it does idle a little quieter. for awhile it was cheaper then regular diesel, but now same price....fuel milage is the same
the only thing you have watch is, in colder weather you might have to use an antigel or use more of it....hope this helps...just my 2 cents

I ran B99 a while back and I loved it, but I don't get even close to that fuel supplier now.

I've been getting a little better gas millage. like 35 miles more per tank while using B40. I think this is wierd cause everyone tells me its should be getting less MPG. Anyone Else getting better MPG?

JLD-

now you are thinking! that is the way to get around! we should have talked about that!

what you are proposing is blending WVO and diesel, its not recommended. its not B-anything. consider how many WVO guys worry about cross contaminating the fuel and WVO. then think how many days of our climate are below 40 degrees...the temo where most of the WVO starts to get thick.

the SIMPLEST WVO setup is putting a tank selector valve before the fuel pump and tap the heater lines to heat the WVO tank. hardest thing is coming up with the tank. i have seen a couple of greasel units that did it this way. its frighteningly simple.

My cousin makes biodesiel in a converted tractor trailor that was shortend to about 24'. He knows lots about this and says ther is a fat called glyceren (i cant spell) in veg oil and it is very thick. thick enough to possibly cause problems with injecters. When u make proper biodiesel this fat is what they are trying to get out of there. To run 100% vegtable oil, all u need, i think, is larger injecters, like really big! But penut oil is what the first diesel engine was running on. I don't think that penuts have any of that bad glyceren.

nothing personal 550, but you don;t need any of that stuff. read up on BioD. Biodiesel production - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

rudolf's demonstration diesel was run on BLACK WALNUT OIL

all you have to do with WVO to run it in our trucks is get it HOT enough so that it is viscous enough to inject with the same diesel injectors. iirc, 150 degrees...

glycerin is the result of the reaction converting the fats to esters with lye. (think soap)...

the only thing you might have to change out is rubber fuel lines as BioD is a VERY agressive solvent.

This is a qoute from wikipedia. I guess this is what i was thinking of when i said penut oil was the first veg oil used. I forgot that rudolf made the actual diesel engine around 1897 and used Black Walnut Oil. I couldn't find info on Black walnut oil, but it sounds like u know your stuff dp

Thank you for the info;tu

"The first known use of vegetable oil as fuel in a diesel engine was a demonstration of an engine built by the Otto company and designed to burn mineral oil, which was run on pure peanut oil at the 1900 World's Fair"

roofer-

i missed your question about the mileage indrease...

bioD actually has LESS energy content per gallon compared to D2, but there is a measurable benefit from the lubricity. i don;t think i have seen anyone put a number to it. the seat of the pants lie-o-meter though might be right. JOAT or someone smarter than me might be able to fill in the details.

as far as the ratio goes, if its working, then don;t change it. i'm jealous because i WISH i could get BioD here locally.

I live 4 blocks away from a Biodiesel Husky Gas station. I thought everyone had one.
Now that I have read the BTUs of Bio mixs are so simalar to average diesel, i will keep using B40.:woot
