7.3 TERRIBLE MILEAGE!

Hello all, I have an 01 powerstroke crewcab 4x4 f-250 Lariat. I bought the truck with 140,000 on it. The truck runs good and was getting great mileage up to 20mpg. Well then I installed a superchips 80hp chip and a 4" procomp lift with Procomp 35x12.50x17's. My mileage went from the 19-20 mpg mark to like 6 or 8 mpg. I cant believe it dropped that drastic. I Removed the superchips 80hp chip and my mileage came up to 16mpg. I can live with that other than it has no balls. What can I do to tune this thing up and make some power without having to sacrifice so much mileage. Is it possible with this 7.3? I was used to my Duramax which made tons of power and got decent mileage to. Hopefully there is an explanation.

With the tires and lift kit, 16 mpg sounds pretty reasonable. I lost .5 to 1 mpg just going from tire size 265/75r16's to 285/75r16's.

I think the superchips stuff is pretty dated and not the latest in the area of tuning for performance or mileage. If you want the best available in chips and tuning for a 7.3, talk to DP-Tuner or TWILDMAN. They seem to be the ones with the largest fan followings. Myself, I use DP-Tuner and am so pleased with my Econo 80hp tune, I doubt I will ever use anybody else.

I run a 8" lift, 38's with 4.56 gears with my 02 ext cab longbox with a superchips tuner on the tow-performance setting (middle) and get 16-18 hwy, 12-14 intown, and 10-12 pulling a 7500lb trailer. The re-gearing of my truck helped the most. (to bring the balls back!)

Not sure if the 01 came with the overhead console with the mpgometer, but are you actually calculating the mpg or using a meter? You can't trust the console if you are using that.

I know my odometer is off like 7% but I can only get 180 miles out of a tank of fuel. I think my tank is 24gal. short box. Also my truck has the dic and that thing is nuts.
