2008 Non-Step Tailgate Conversion Write-Up & Pics

Hey Bama, I got my 08 take off bed and have a stupid question. How the heck do you get the tailgate off? I pull up on an angle on the passenger side, then try pulling straight out like on my '02 gate, but it won't come off the driver side hinge. Is there something different since it has the spring in the gate now for 08? Or is it just tight?Thanks

well, i dont really know. before i started ordering parts for mine, the service manager gave me the go ahead to see remove a 2008 tailgate off one of their trucks in inventory, to see if it would match up to my bed.

i too could get the pass. side to come off, but i could not get the driver's side off. now it was just me doin it, and i was worried about scratchin the new tailgate up, if i had another set of hands, it may have come right off.

the torsion bar could have something to do with it. there could be some pressure there. try getting a good buddy to help you take it off.

I found you just have to nearly close the gate to relieve some of the pressure on the spring. Then it comes right off just like previous years.
