I have a 2006 crew cab long box 4x4. i have hardly any mile on the truck and around 50 to 55 the steering wheel gets a shake or shimmy on the littlest bumps. i put on a new rancho rs5000 steering shock and that helped but it did not cure it completly. If any one has any suggestions i would be greatful.
thanks in advance.

Mine is all over too but only when running empty & not towing. Since I tow most of the time, I really don't notice. When I take a trip without a trailer I lower the tire pressure.

Give 50 PSI a shot on all 4 tires if you're not loaded down. That should help the tires take some of the hit for you.

steering still shaking

I tried the lower air presure, it helped some but it still there. have any other ideas? would it be in the steering gear box...gear mesh not tight enough?
Thanks for the help so far, any thing else is appreciated.

Still running the Factory tires the truck came with off the lot?

Might have an out of round tire or out of balance.

no, i dont think i lost a weight, there is a weight on the inside and outside of both front tires.
the tires and wheels are stock.
I am going to have the balance checked this weekend.
I will call ford and try to find out about the tsb too.
Thanks

I got this from the dieselman site thanks to him for all his work. hope this help ya'

Steering Wheel Shimmy After Riding Over Bumps/Ruts:
Some 05 and 07 F-Series trucks may exhibit an oscillation/shimmy in the steering wheel after hitting bumps or ruts in the road. Typical steering wheel movement is 5 degrees and usually smooths out after about 5 oscillations. This condition is more prevalent on 4X4 trucks with steering wheels that have radio and climate controls. The truck will need to be inspected: tire pressure checked; steering damper inspected (replace with 5C3Z-3E651-D if needed); all suspension and steering fasteners torqued; steering checked for binding; steering gear adjustment checked/adjusted. The caster may need to be reduced by 0.5-0.75 degrees. After this, trucks build prior to 10-8-04 should have the steering wheel replaced.
