    Towing Capacity Question

Those numbers are all about safety. Safely that vehicle can handle the posted weights. Can the truck pull/ haul more, yes! Can it stop easily if overloaded, probably not! That soccer mom with 4 kids in the SUV ahead of you in a panic braking situation is what you have to think about. Safety...

    Red 90 diesel?

Absolutely! Red dye just indicates it's not taxed! In illinois it's a $1,000.00 ticket first offense. DOT was dipping tanks at the local sale barn and got a friend, use with caution.

    Best winter anti gel additive

Almost all the fuel you get during the winter has been treated with anti gel however I still add PowerService fuel additive to my truck. A very common product found at farm stores, parts stores, even walmart.

    Switching into 4X4

My truck has 2H lit most of the time as 4wd isn't used very often. 2H to 4h can be done on the fly but isn't engaged until the light is lit. This takes a couple seconds. Going into 4L or out of 4L requires the vehicle to be stopped with foot on the brake in neutral. . The front hubs in auto are...

Need thoughts on dealer pricing on brakes and bearings

With so many YouTube videos and online forums that cover such repairs I would consider doing it yourself. I've replaced all calipers on my 02, never even thought about going to a stealer dealer. The bearing job should be no issue if you have tools and a place to do it. Time is money if you...

    2002 F350 7.3 auto tranny issues

My 02 done this same thing a couple times. A transmission shop told me the front pump seal and bushings get wore and can cause this. They also said there's more pressure created when in reverse ( could be true i guess) I was on the pedal pretty hard backing uphill when mine belched fluid. I...

Windsheild Wiper ON = Engine Shutdown

Just a thought.... if you have tilt steering there could be a wire or combination of wires getting pinched causing your issue. Fire it up and move the steering wheel up and down while turning on and off the wipers. At least that's where I'd start. Good luck and let us know what you find.

A different kind of steering issue

Follow the pressure line from the pump. The line should go to the hydro booster then to the power steering gear box. Your issue may be inside the hydro booster. Several videos on YouTube show how to purge the air from the system. Trapped air causes issues like you describe but it could be a...

    Question Help needed please.

My 2002 does something similar on startup, especially on cold winter illinois days. 18° yesterday morning and I've learned to just let everything warm up well before driving. Cold engine results in some unburned fuel which is causing the excess exhaust color. It's the nature of the beast to...

    Alternator Upgrade

I changed the factory alternator at 165k miles, it was overcharging. You might check on the alternator that they use on ambulance or firetruck applications if you want a high output one.

    Question Help!

My 7.3 did the exact same thing a few years ago. I had a heat probe for an Edge box in one manifold and immediately started losing temp on that side. The wiring harness under the valve cover for that side that goes to the injectors had a connection that came apart. Very common problem and they...

    Key Lock

I had an 01 SD stole from the parking lot of the Henry Ford Museum in Deerborn. The indented polygon around the lockset is where they broke the plastic, popped the lockset out, and simply pulled up on the attached rod to get the door unlocked to get in. I'd go to a locksmith. If your truck is...

    Exhaust cleaning

My 02 7.3 don't have any of that but my neighbor has a newer model. He claims that his will regen best when loaded or pulling a trailer so that the boost is high, exhaust is hotter, and it takes a lot less time for the process.

    Question re Ford's Towing Selector

Bumper hitch towing weight numbers might be the lesser and 5th wheel/ gooseneck the higher. Could very easily be a misprint. Amazing hauling and handling difference between the two as 5th wheel trailering loads the truck better.

    Brake job gone wrong?

With the caliper off, have someone pump the brake pedal. The pistons should come out. Make sure they move freely. A C- clamp and a small block of wood works good to squeeze them back in. If they're tight, replace them. I had to replace both on the rear of my 02 SD when they weren't...

    '99 OEM spare capacity?

Save your money. If the spare is in good condition i wouldn't change it. If you would need to use it the difference in size wouldn't matter for a short run to a tire shop to get a flat repaired/replaced. If you needed to use the spare for a long distance, put it on the front. The spare rim is...
