6.4 PowerStroke cold weather starting procedure/recommendations

I beleive you prolly nailed it. Incomplete burn because of low cylinder temps would contribute to excess build up. Nice of Ford to spin the test and leave that part of the vid out... Doesn't surprise me though.

    OIL rating?

Spongy oil  , never heard that one while working for 5 years as a Petroleum Lab Tech. Take what you want and leave the rest. Do your own homework and base it on facts, not hearsay, he said, she said, and I once knew sombody who did it or heard about it.....Nuff said. Here's the...

    OIL rating?

OK, but synthetic is actually cheaper to run. You only pay more up front for it.

    new trans questions

Something to keep in mind as you ponder buying one of these trucks. If you break them bad it'll cost ya big $$$... ain't nothing cheap on a Superduty. If you take care of them, they last a long time.

    OIL rating?

I run Rotella 5w-40 synthetic in my trucks as well as synthetic media oil filters. Walmart carries it for about $17 gallon, Tractor Supply also carries it for about $18 - $19 gallon. Made a huge difference in cold starting on my 2000 7.3 because it doesn't turn into molassis like dino oil so...

    high idle switch

Once I stop, put the tranny in park and take my foot off of the brake pedal it will go into high idle at 1200 RPM within a few seconds of applying the parking brake. For manual tranny, must be in nuetral, parking brake set and foot off of the brake pedal, I personally would put a simple switch...

    high idle switch

For an '02 you have to get Fords Aux Idle Controller (AIC) or get a flip chip for the computer.

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, VAC PUMP AGAIN!!!!

It ain't no fun in a 2000 Superduty towing an 8k 28' travel trailer like that either.....earned that the hard way last summer when my waterpump shot it guts and fan out the front missing the radiator by a hair's width. Advance Auto Parts can get both new and reman pumps for the '97...

    new trans questions

No..... If you ship your trans you are paying $3200, if you don't ship your trans you pay $4200. The $1000 is what you will be charged for your transmission core if they don't get it. There ain't nothing cheap on these trucks. For that kind of price you are better off getting a bulletproof...

    high idle switch

Also prevents fouling the injectors over extended idling, it's not good to just let a diesel idle at low RPM for a long time. Some use it to operate a PTO too. '05 and up trucks have it programmed into the computer and it's a simple mod of hooking up 12v to a certain wire that is already...

    new trans questions

That's because we KNOW ours is bigger, we know how to use it and have nothing to prove:sly ..... BTW Nothing like spanking a ricer with an 8000 dually and nothing funnier than lining his drivers window up with the tail pipe when he's sitting at the red light with a window down going BOOM BOOM...

    Question to the IT department

I'm retired and surf the net a good portion of the day to break up the boredom, I pop in here to browse or lurk many times a day. This site and the oilburners site have the slowest loading pages of any I visit regularly throughout the day. I don't have the blazing fast connections most do...

    new to a 7.3

Boost pressure will be determined by the load on the engine and range from 0 to about almost 20, IIRC the computer won't let it get past 22 PSI in stock form. When needed, the stock Superduty PSD turbo is simple to rebuild, in fact it's one of the simplest turbos there is to rebuild. It cost...

    new trans questions

Transfer cases are easy to rebuild only a couple hours work once it's out. Haven't messed with the newer ones but can usually rebuild them for about $200 - $400 depending on what it needs. 4R100 tranny, $1500 - $2000 for a stock rebuild, $3000 and up for heavily modded trannies........ not...

    new to a 7.3

Pull at least a CARFAX and if able an OASIS on it...... You can also run the VIN at DMV to find out who actually owned it in many states if you are so inclined. You know better than to beleive a Used Car salesman or manager...... Next week it will have been owned by a little old lady that...

sorry about all the drool but...............

Absolutly. I'd have to go roast those 49" tires to make sure it wasn't false advertising. :sly I'd nevery buy anything from somebody that was bragging about abusing it in an ad.

    Yeah whats really going on

Welcome. Diesels are simple. They are just big air pumps and only need 3 things to run. Fuel Oxygen Source of ignition... Which is compression in this case. Take care of it and it'll last a long time. Now you're an expert ;tu It's just all...

    Any RV Transporters Out There?

I was an over the road driver for 8 year and have owned 4 semis over that time, 2 years were spent running Canadian fleets. I like running Canada, paperwork ain't bad and I was always able to keep loaded because too many drivers refuse to go there. I personally like running north and south...

How many miles, are too many when buying

Just traded my 2000 with 340,000 miles on it for an '06 with 92,000 miles on it. Taken care of these engines easily last 300,000 and much more.

    What gearing to pull RV

Had 4.10 in the 2000 dually and it pulled great, didn't like the higher RPMs on the highway. Have 3.73 in the '06 and love them. Good compromise for towing and economy IMHO.

    cab roof visor

I had the factory visor on my 2000 Lariat LE. I really liked the way it looked. There is a little bit of difference in the wind noise between my '06 and the former LE but not bad, not enough to stop me from owning one again. The only thing I didn't like about it was... whenever you passed...
