    Considering selling 7.3 "X" & Buying 2006 6.0 F 350

I honestly don't know when that changed. I wouldn't mind 3.55 either, anything much higher than that is overkill for me because all I pull is travel trailers. I did a 4:10 to 3.08 swap in my '90 dually a couple years ago as a fuel milage experiment. Gears and installation kit cost me about...

    Considering selling 7.3 "X" & Buying 2006 6.0 F 350

Yes sir. Factory 3.73 ratio and the GCWR is 23,500, same as the 4.10 ratio. I like it better than the 4.10 I had in my 2000 dually. It's the standard ratio on the '08 F350 diesel dually too, doesn't matter if it's manual or auto. The 4.10 and 4.30 are optional

    Considering selling 7.3 "X" & Buying 2006 6.0 F 350

Long trip to Texas and back for Christmas in my dually. Checked fuel milage by hand with a calculator. '06 F-350, CC, 4x4, 6.0 PSD, 5r110 auto, 3.73 gears. Running empty. 15 MPG at 75 MPH hwy with cruise control 17 MPG at 64 MPH hwy with cruise control I get 10 - 11 mpg pulling my 28'...

    First time in the cold

They all have block heaters in the engines but the cord has to be ordered either from the factory when it is built or from the parts department if it didn't come with one. Block heater is right above the starter.

1978.... GM 350 diesel... Grenaded on sight, made a lot of bad press you had to read about, hear about word of mouth or found out about it when you went to trade in your car and were offered $2k less than a similarly equipped gas model pissing off a lot of people. Only computers then were in...

    Won't start

You're welcome, You can use a screwdriver to check the level. The resevoir is only about 6" deep and there is a screen in there somewhere so don't force it when it hits bottom. Don't start the engine and forget to put the plug back in either. It'll look an old Hollywood movie oil well blowout...

    Won't start

Here's a freebie check that only takes a couple minutes to rule out this possible problem. Pull the plug out of the top of the HPOP resevoir and check the oil. Level should be within 1 to 1-1/2" from the top. Won't start if it's empty. The lube pump feeds the resevoir and ride on the aluminum...

Something else to consider. If you look back 20+ years ALL of these engines have had early issues. What you didn't have 20 years ago was internet that can blow everything out of proportion very quickly. 6.9 IDI had issues with head gaskets & glow plug controllers. Personal computer was just...

    F350 Superduty Diesel jump start

Best thing to do, especially on a multiple battery setup with only one set of cables is to hook them up and let them charge up for a while, walk around smoking ciggarettes or whatever for 15 minutes but theave the key alone. Not good to just hook up cables and immediatle start trying to crank it...

IMHO the 05-07 were pretty good....some had good luck with the 03 & 04 but I like to wait until a new engine or vechicle has been out for a few years to work the bugs out before I buy one. Good enough for me to trade my 00 with 340k for an 06 with 92k. Now have 97k on the clock and I'm loving...

Nothing special there. Loock at the GVW on some of the big high end fifth wheel RVs and toyhaulers, the GVW on some of them is up there at 18k - 20k . My Putnam Firehawk II 5th wheel and gooseneck are both rated at 23,000 pounds. That's a high dollar Reese Signature series 5th wheel in the...

That Yota is old news already. No 8' bed.. I can't use it, manual tranny not good for my disabilities, it's ugly, rear fenders design that will catch some GN trailers in hard turns and hard to find Hino engine parts..... No thanks, I'll keep my Fords and hope they go CAT someday or mabey...

    What is too many miles?

Just traded my 2000 in with 340,000 miles on the clock so you should have plenty of life left in it. You already paid for it so it's too late to worry about what it's worth other than what it's worth to you. Take care of it and it'll work hard for you for many years to come.

Put together a new machine for '08

Looks good, should fly. I'm going to build a new gaming rig for '08 too but I'm waiting for the AMD SB700 southbridge chipset in combination with a 790FX northbridge chip on a motherboard and some new drivers for the Raedon Crossfire to come out early next year before I build. Getting tired...

Didn't want you to run out, throw a set in and wonder why they didn't run right. Like CSIPSD says... DP, Swamps, Beans etc.. can program a chip for the hybrids.

    to upgrade or not

With 22.5 wheels all he can get are truck tires. The guys running truck type 22" wheels (which are actually turned down semi wheels) can get the lo pro rubber for them. With a 6" lift and 36" truck tires you can pretty much forget about a GN or Fiver. On my semis they would last about 150k...

    to upgrade or not

IIRC With a 22.5 the shortest low profile tire you can get is 36" and you'll need to lift it which isn't too user freindly with a GN There are some 8 lug 19.5 wheels that won't need adapters available with 8 on 6.5" or 8 on 170mm patterns. You could run a 245 / 70 - 19.5 which is about 33"...

    OIL rating?

Up to 2 minutes depending on the engine oil temperature. The glow plugs will still be on after the light in the dash goes out so don't use that to judge the time they stay on. You can usually see the voltage guage move slightly higher when the GP relay shuts off but it's best to check with a...
