Question Low Voltage on start up: Battery light on

Does this truck kill the batteries if it sits for a day or two? Mine will randomly kill the batteries if I let it sit.... sometimes overnight. Or I can go weeks and it is fine? Or are you just seeing this on startup, and it will start with this condition, correct? Also, my batteries are only...

6.0 changing fuel filters - any special instructions?

Texas, I guess I have to ask the stupid question, but the tank has fuel in it? Did you replace the o-rings on the caps? Did the caps seem to go on correctly and seat all the way down? I would open the Secondary and see if the bowl around the filter is full? If not then it is not getting...

    Converter Lock UP

I do beleve in THM the converter does stay locked up more. This is how it accomplishes the compression braking and keeping the transmission cooler. Alot of the heat that is built up in an automatic transmission is from the TC slipping. Keeping it locked more will help to cool the transmission...

    newbie here-need some help please

Dogman, Do you have an aftermarket intake? I would think the air across the MAF should be clean, filtered air and not get dirty. Not trying to stir the pot just wondering?

6.0 changing fuel filters - any special instructions?

Texas - The larger filter that goes in the HFCM has a white membrane over the filter folds. It looks sorta like a dryer sheet...... If the pleats are do not have a layer over them they do not have the water seperator membrene. The Seconday does not have the membrane. REDJAMES -...

6.0 changing fuel filters - any special instructions?

Texas, Drain out the water seperator which also emptys the HFCM. Use a 36mm socket to remove the cap. REmove the old filter and o-ring on the cap, replace o-ring and filter and reassemble. Change out the secondary filter and cap o-ring on top of the engine. That will take a 1/2 inch...

    electrical gremlin battery light

Aric, Take a look at the fuse and circuit for the Insturment Cluster (Fuse 35 I think) it is in the center bottom of the fuse panel under the steering wheel. Travis and I were tracing down an electrical problem, and when we pulled that fuse it killed the Instrument Cluster, Radio and Interoir...

    New guy DIY trucks

ddan2, The rough start in the mornings, you will want to check with Ford and see if it has the latest update for the FICM/PCM. There is an update that will preheat the injectors (Inductive Heating Flash). The oil in the injectors is thick and does not flow well. This is what causes the...

    Broken interior door handle

I am not 100% sure on the newer trucks but on the 80-86 models that had the door handle low towards the center of the door and rocked up and away from the door, there was a single 7/16 or 1/2 bolt holding the handle on. It can be R&R with the interior installed. You actually had to remove it...

    Dipstick!

Mine is cracked a bit, I am just careful with it. It doesn't affect the seal and it is all still there. It is probally fairly common cause is it so long and "just" out of reach, I am sure it gets banged when the stick goes into the tube. I just make sure it is where it need so be before I...

Help Needed rough when cold and white smoke

It sounds like you need the inductive heating update for the PCM. My 03 did the same thing you are describing. This is a fairly common problem on the 6.0 and there is a TSB out on it. It preheats the injectors to allow the oil to flow when it the oil and engine are cold. Took it in and they...

    poor inside heat

shelby69, I have an 03 6.0 Excursion with my experience the heat should run you out after the engine warms up. On the cold, no-power issue, do you know if the truck has ever been in and had any of the updates done to the PCM. There is an issue on a cold engine, the oil in the injecters...

    water in the oil

444ornothing, One thing I may suggest for troubleshooting help on the older IDI engines is to post in the 6.9 and 7.3 IDI section on oilburners.net (sister site to SDD). These guys are some of the best sources of information on the IDI diesels. They may be able to give you some other...

    Fuel Filter Change

Jamzin, I have an 03. Make sure to use a good 6mm hex wrench when you remove the drain plug on the primary filter housing (The one underneath). Have a drain pan ready and be ready to move once you start to get it open, it will pour fuel out. Once it is drained take the same 36mm socket you...
