A 4 banger with a turbo can really scoot. Look at the svo stang. Look at the new sho taurus. They are dumb to get rid of the ranger. Its one of the few lil trucks left. I see more rangers out there than anything else. They are still selling them.

no, you weren't dreaming; rangers were offered in a diesel form in the early 80's, explorers never got a diesel engine

According to this article, The Early Ford Ranger Diesel Engines, there was a diesel Ranger in the 80's. I remember seeing Rangers with diesel badges on them.

There is someone that has taken a ranger and put (IIRC) a 4 cylinder cummins. Its been modified....I'm sure fuel economy wasnt in mind. You can search it on youtube "cummins ranger"

My buddy has a Diesel Ranger, I'll find out what year it is and what motor it has.

there were 2 diesel engines that ford used-

a 2.2L mazda branded perkins I4 until 85 i think. same perkins block as some smaller marine engines i think.

and for a year or two maybe a 2.3L turbo mitsubishi, same as the dodge d50 trucks.
