Not much weight savings on the valve covers. Just better heat transfer.

Not if you had tried it. I have polished a quite a bit of aluminum and this thing is more trouble than it is worth. Taking longer to polish than my 21' aluminum boat.

Where to buy inexpensive 75W140 synthetic gear oil?

Autozone is $16 a quart for Mobil 1 and since you need 3.3 quarts thats $64 bucks alone for oil.

I only spent $65 on the diff cover WITH longer screws included!

Not if you had tried it. I have polished a quite a bit of aluminum and this thing is more trouble than it is worth. Taking longer to polish than my 21' aluminum boat.

As in an earlier post, the polished one that I showed, that member had his polished at a chroming shop in CA.

If you have those stand up buffing machines, it could be done fairly easy.

But if you're using a drill and small bit polishing tools, I can see how it would be time consuming and aggrivating.

Don't forget the friction modifier too. I just spent $10 at ford for two bottles of modifier and another $44.66 for oil at the local bulk plant(Mobil 1). Gets kinda spendy just to change the cover. If you are not due for a oil change you could get a clean pan and clean the lower area of the diff real good so that you could re-use the old oil.

No offense, but I'd just wait till the interval was up and change the oil, God knows what you might pick up with used oil...

Cheap insurance. As far as oil goes, walmart has it too I do believe.

Walmart only sells 80W90.

I am assuming that 18,000 miles is enough time to break in things (diff, engine, etc.) and I want to switch over to synthetics for a long healthy life.

Is Royal Purple gear oil really purple in color?
