With so many choices, what do you think is the best? Filters like Hastings, Baldwin, Wix, and Fram are shorter than the Motorcraft Fl1995. Is there a larger oil filter out there for the 7.3L? What do you think about the by-pass filters? Just wanted to get some input. Want to use a high quality filter, but don't want to spend a fortune on it.

Best? Hard to really judge... MPHO-->Amsoil Ea0 or Fleetguard Stratapore. Then Wix or Baldwin or M/C. Amsoil and Stratapore are top Performers.

Oil filters

Don't forget that different companies use a different amount of filter media (pleated paper), after trying three i have came to the conclusion that the motorcraft and the fleetgaurd have the most media in them, i used them all for 8000 miles then cut them open, now i use fleetgaurd but only cause i got a free box of 12 from the international dealer i got laid off from when they closed, ford dealers are a little exspensive but do not forget they sell them at walmart along with motorcraft 15w40 gallons.

Best oil filter..

BY FAR, THE BEST OIL FILTER THAT I HAVE EVER USED ON A POWERSTROKE , IS A PUROLATOR PUR-ONE IT IS THE GOLD GRIPPY ONE
IT IS ONLY $9.00 AND SOME CHANGE AND IT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT I HAVE FOUND THAT KEEPS THE OIL CLEAN

I RUN AMSOIL AND WITH THE PUR-ONE , I GET 3 FILTER CHANGES FROM MY OIL.. THAT'S 15,000 MILES + AND THE OIL IS STILL CLEAN !!!;tu

AND FOR THE BEST BY-PASS SYSTEM,,
THE BEST OUT THERE , SO I HAVE HEARD FROM JUST ABOUT ALL OF THE FORUMS, THE FILTRATION SOLUTIONS FS-2500 IS THE BEST..
FOR THE 7.3 IT IS JUST ABOUT $450.00 WITH THE STAINLESS STEEL LINE KIT..[/B]

One more take on the subject ?

BEST FILTER ? ANY major brand filter, that meets or exceeds the engine manufactures (or component) filtration specifications...

Add a by-pass or secondary filter to that (?)... it's As Good As We Can Git It.

The Key is: Regularly Scheduled Oil/Filter Changes... at what-ever cycle that may be.... Time, Miles or Use.

I disagree with the Best Bypass out there being the FS-2500. Its a good system don't get me wrong but for much more money than other leading systems.

Why would you want to pay 429.00 or 499.00 for stainless lines when you could buy an Amsoil Dual Bypass system for the 7.3L for about half that. For 6.0L and 6.4L you can buy a single bypass just like the FS-2500 and pay so much less for it that you will be able to buy Amsoil fluid for the engine and still have money in your pocket.

Why buy an Amsoil bypass system? The filters for the FS-2500 need to be changed at 10k miles no matter what and are 26.95 ea. The filters for the Amsoil system are guaranteed for 25k miles. You only change filters when you change oil. The FS-2500 has a micron rating of 2.78 microns the Amsoil system is 2 microns so they are close there.

I am not allowed to say the pricing in open forums by Amsoil's policies but anybody interested may pm me for pricing. Anybody here wanting to buy the Amsoil system through me will pay my cost on it always.
