If you live where it gets cold enough to freeze hard you could have cracked cylinder walls with that much water in there. Better have it checked out really close if thats the case.

hey rich:hail ,good to see you.
thats the engine.it looks rough don't it:wow .not going to get to pull the pan on it tonght.i wanted to get that pan off and look inside but i'm thinking it will look like the top.the cam and lifter look good in it though.i might just get me a short block instead.i only got $100 in this engine .it was worth the gamble either way i geuss.(could always use a mock-up engine)
i don't have a shop. a freind is letting me do the engine in his, but he has his truck in the building and no room to leave mine thier.thats why i'm just going to build one then do a swap.
my truck is still running i drove it last night, just don't drive to far.i drove to eureka last saturday and used a 1/4 tank of fuel its about 40 miles round trip.
in it's defence i was running my SCMT in tow safe.but either way thats still alot of fuel.
the problem i am fineding is that no mechinces:)dunno) wants to do a diesel engine around here. their is one in cuba and one in de soto that builds race engine that might.just haven't be able to get their phone number yet.

and rich you ever get around here give us a call, cuba not that far,we will have dinner or something. you will like it here ,alot of old friends.:thumbs

Yes it has been awhile.
I thought there was a shop in St. James or was it Forrest City up north.
Saint Louis ain't that far away.
I think your idea of a short block is a sound one!

ok guys.i am going to post this here instead of the other place.to many people know whats best for someone else truck over their .if you know what i mean.i will post pictures here as it come's along.
first off, some of you know me and most never ever have heard of tubzz.(which is the way i like it)i'm just a guy with a little truck that happens to run very well.i'm not realy a one vender kind of guy (though i only go to one person for my tuning, and one shop for my injector work)which is because of their custmor serves.
anyway,i had a rocker break on #4.this is the secound time i have had a problem with this cyclinder.last time it was a broken & bent push rod.now that i fixed it.i have a knock that can be heard from inside the cab but you can't hear it outside because of the chadder.
so here is my other engine.it a early 99 that the truck burnt.it has been out in the weather for i don't know how long and i don't know how many miles it has on it.i do know i'm going to tear it apart and rebuild it.
pic1 pic2
i plan on going with harden stock rods, some coated bearings, new pistons, and then spined some money on the top end like a cam.harden push rods, and valve springs, nothing carzy, just stout.i will never get any drugs to run on it.it doesn't need it.i can run with most of them already on just #2
what have some of you guys done when doing a rebuild?and what is wrong in my plan?
oh,and all my mods will be moving to the new engine(headstuds, turbo, ect)
:thanks and stay tuned.
will be pulling heads off tonight with new pics coming:thumbs

Man, haven't been over here for a while, just been hitting the other site when I get a chance to get on, the current soap is about big oil......
Anyway, haven't seen you overthere in a while tubbz, last I knew was ya fixed the first rocker and pushrod and everything seemed ok...
What's breaking them anyway? You have high pressure springs for higher revs, or are you starting to float valves or have a weak spring thats letting the valve and piston meet face to face?

Sorry bout the luck, I've wanted to meet ya since I knew how close we lived, I just don't have anytime this time of the year or I'd over a hand. John Deere fixin business really picks up in the spring time.

hey johndeerebones good to see you.

to your question about whats is causing it to break is yeh all of the obove.i haven't tor my motor apart yet its still in the truck and i drive it the 2 miles to were the other engine is.after i get them swap out i will tear into and post what i fine.

i got the block all gutted to night.no rust at all under the pan.i geuss the water was in the pan.i was surprised.i did have some problem getting one piston out.but it wasn't going stop me.the crank looked real good and all the rod was in good shape also.all the bearings was in fine shape no marks or scatches on them.i think its going to ok now.

i started ordering parts today.cam shaft,High Strength Pushrods, and will be ordering the Main Bearings and Rod Bearings with the PolyDyn "DL" Coated on them, lifters, valve srings tomorrow.going to wait for piston after i fined out how much it get boured out.and the rest (gaskit kit, and a new water pump)
still haven't found a shop.i tell them its a diesel and its like i said a bad word or something.i have a few more to call.

none of pics realy turned out tonight because of the light.i will work on them and try to get them posted.
