Look on the inside of the drivers side frame rail directly beneath the drivers seat. You'll see the HFCM plug facing the front driveshaft. The plug takes a 6mm hex. The driveshaft is right in the way, so you'll have to crook your arm up and over it to avoid getting a diesel bath when you drain it. You should get about half a quart of fluid. Have fun. Wait till you change the filter, that's lots more fun.:thumbs

On edit: Oh yeah, you'll probably want to drain it once a month or whenever you're up under your truck. I think you'll find you can do it without making a mess, so draining often will prevent getting the light right before a big trip or some other bad time.

There is a new drain plug that you can get from Ford or International. The plug loosens but does not come out. It helps.

Everytime I get under mine to drain the HFCM I remember to remind myself to order that new drain plug...

Also get you some Stanadyne or Diesel Kleen it helps.

Question, are you supposed to drain it like oil? until it stops going? or are you supposed to just give it time and guess?

I just let mine run until it stops. Use a clean container and pour the good fuel back inot the tank.

The new HFCM drain plug loosens providing essentially a drain ?
Also, I'm faithful with the Diesel Kleen product. Thinking I may have got a bad shot of fuel at my last fill-up. 7,000 miles on the truck - at what frequency should I expect to drain her if I'm not faithful to a monthly schedule of climbing underneath (still cold in Michigan and Bertha won't fit in the garage).:burnit

This is the plug that was mentioned. I just installed it last week and it worked great. The problem with the stock plug is that it's hard to hold onto that thing once the flow of fuel starts gushing. I normally had to fish it out from the bottom of the container.

As far as drain frequency, you could go until the light comes on if you need to. It's also cold here in Mass so when I'd get a seemingly rare day of 30+ degrees I'd just slide under there and drain it along with all the other preventive maintenance.:sweet
