Whats up guys?
Well its been really cold in utah the last couple of nights. And i was wondering have any of you guys used your block heaters. My real question is does it draw alot of electricity? How long does it take to heat the block. Like 2 hours or more.
I was thinking of plugging it in in the early morning before i went to work. just to save my electric bill..:D

It pulls about 900-1100 Watts.

Probably need to plug in a 3-4 hours before hand ;)

I have a timer on mine and it comes on 4 hours before hand.

If you pay like $0.15 per KWH, then it would be about $0.6 a day ;)

When I use mine I use a timer on it.

Set it for 3-4hrs and its good to go in the morning.

For comparison its like leaving ten 100watt light bulbs on for 4hrs.

Hang the extension cord over the mirror either that or check the mirror while driving to see if a orange snake is chasing you.

Same here,we have the timer kick on the block heater 3-4 hours prior to cranking up,when it rolls down into the teens then the 500 watt oil preheater timer is hooked up.

In a few weeks we'll be in West Valley City and you can count on I'll have the timers and cords loaded up:thumbs

Did I say Welcome to SDD yet Jesse? :welcome3 :sweet

Extension cord on the mirror is a real good idea. Otherwise you WILL one day drive off with it still plugged in...only for about 100ft max...then it WILL be unplugged somewhere :(

LOL.............

Come to think of it............I don't recall unplugging mine this morning. :(

Greeeaaat...........wonder where I will find it.  :D

Question

So far in this thread I've seen 100, 500, and 900-1100 watts. Not trying to be an ass (kinda comes natural I guess :sorry ), but which is it?
My best guess is leaving mine plugged in over night (no timer) 5 days a week costs me about $25 a month, but I can't remember what my elec rate is.

Thanks

Block heater electric usage equates to ten 100watt light bulbs = 1000watts
500 watt oil preheater - refers to an add on aftermarket pan heater, not your block heater
900-1100 Watts - The correct answer
