New to the site to find out what might be the problem. Over the last 8 months My truck has gone through about 4 gallons of coolant. It has never over heated. I pull a 10,000lbs toyhauler and a 20ft car trailer. I have a afe intake,4in. exaust and a hypertech ProgrammerIII. I am guessing it is either the egr cooler or the Head gaskets. I have no coolant in the oil or puddles under the truck. The exaust doesn't seem to be wet or blowing white smoke so I am guessing that it is burning it. It is at the shop now and after two days they can't find anything yet but I get the idea they aren't looking very hard. Any advise would be helpfull. Thanks.

You are correct in thinking it's either a head gasket or EGR cooler.

You might want to drain your oil and see if there is any antifreeze in it.

I once blew a head gasket in my mustang and the antifreeze went into the oil pan. When I drained the oil about 1 gallon of antifreeze came out along with a few quarts of oil. It roasted my bearings.

Order a free sample kit from Blackstone Laboratories and send in a sample of your next oil change.

Blackstone testing will reveal any coolant in your oil as well as fuel(injectors). $22 to analyze your oil sample tells alot about the health and wear of your engine's internals.;tu

It would be helpful to know that year your truck is.

do you have any white/crusty deposits around the coolant bottle ?
are you running a tuner (flash programer or flip chip) ?

you might wanna check for combustion gasses in the coolant (while
your waiting for the results of the oil sampling from blackstone-labs.com)

its a simple test to "sniff" the coolant for combustion
leaks --> Combustion Leak Test Kit

The coolant bottle shouldnt be filled to the "FULL" line (im not aware that even after
they discovered the problem that they changed the size or markings on the coolant
degas bottle) TSB - 05B32 (coolant level fill, change)

if there are white crusty deposits on/around or UNDER the
coolant degas tank (mounted to the firewall) then your 1st
course of action is to make sure youre not OVER FILLING
the tank (you shouldnt fill above the minimum mark).

filling above the minimum "line" will only cause the coolant
to be pushed out of the tank.

My truck is an 04 it doesn't have the Degas bottle that came on the 05. I looked for it reading some other threads. I was told by the dealership that they thought I was over boosting it. I have the edge insight that reads PID of the ECM and a Pyro. It said 27lbs of boost. Not sure but that doesn't sound high to me. I could be that I just not finding the Degas bottle. I have found twice now that the coolant Res. has been a gal to 2 gal. low.
