USA residents: should we switch? (survey, just for fun)

do you prefer metric system, or SAE? this is for everything, not just nuts and bolts. this was sparked by a lunchroom conversation with an english gent, making fun of our "MPG's". he had a prius and we had asked him what he was getting for mileage. he said some number of km/liter....had us all sorts of confused.

ok, i'll be odd man out and say
metric...

it is different than what we are used to, but in engineering (what i do) it is easier, more precise

i'm also used to it too, having lived overseas

personally, i really enjoy the sae world i live in. i work on metric things all the time, its not bad either. i think it would be very hard to switch, not so much for the younger generations but more for middle-aged and older folks.

i can handle my metric socket set, dont think i could handle km per liter, or milli/centi/decimeters.

I'm a scientist by training and constantly have to use metric to accomplish my job so my brain can function in either form. Metric is far more precise however getting accustomed to different "normals" will take some getting used to.

it doesnt matter to me. some of our stuff (jenbacher, cat, etc.) is in metric. logically it would be easier, but we're used to it. im neutral but voted english system.

to clarify i dont think either system, metric or sae, has an accuracy
advantage over the other...sae can be used to measure in tolerances
smaller than a thousandths of an inch.

personally if i buy any thing i just wish to GOD theyd stick to one or
the other not BOTH on the same item..

id like to know when i go to my ford that everything is SAE or Metric...not MIXED !

Only thing I hate about the metric system is how tolerances on blueprints are formulated. Being a machinist, I'm seeing more metric sizes on jobs, you need a book to figure out tolerances.

10-Roger on that, but I hate gapping spark plugs to 3.5mm
