I currently run Amsoil in my engine and love it. I'll be replacing both front and rear axles with their syn diff gear oil. I plan on taking care of the transfer case while I'm at it. However, my question comes into play with the transmission. What is the word on the street about switchin to a Amsoil "type" fluid? Is my tranny syn fluid out of the factory? I do not tow that much, mostly a bass boat and some waverunners. I know some of you were gonna ask me about that. And for scenerio sakes of people telling me okay to go with the syn fluid, is there a way for me to get the fluid out of the torque converter? I know there is alot of questions and ideas in this. Any input would be appreciated on this topic.

Ford uses Mercon XP transmission fluid and it is already synthetic. Changing it will do nothing. Amsoil does not have the proper oil for the 5 spd Troq Shift transmission, by their own admission.

i'm gonna pull the controversy card here: in the latest "diesel power" mag (which is totally awesome by the way) an article is in there for their oil & atf fluid.:dunno
i don't understand why they would be selling it if it did not work or worked poorly?!?!
obviously it is an 'individual' choice but i would personally do a little more research @ amsoil.com :thumbs

Thanks for the input. As RED said, i saw amsoil'a add in diesel power mag. and that got me thinking. i guess ill have to do some research on this. however, if ford puts in syn from the factory, they i guess there is no need to mess with it.

Been using Amsoil in our vehicles since the early 80's.

Amsoil in the tranny, front & rear diffs and x-fer case on this truck for 140k..............

My vote...........go for it.

easy to get fluid out of torque converter... theres a plate in the trans (4 bolts i think) and that exposes the torque converter then just find the drain plug....
2001 was the last year the Ford put drain plugs in the torque converter.

The torqushift uses Mercon/Dexron 5-SP fluid. Dexron 5 won't cut it. It's a Ford only item right now, and boy does it physically stink. It's got one odd additive package, almost smells chlorinated to me. Which would make sense as an extreme pressure lube...
