I can't wait for gas to be at $4, cause I see it happening soon.
S-H-H-H!!! Be ve-w-y quiet about it and maybe it will go away!!!!
It does seem as though we've all been saying for a long time "It (the prices) can't get any higher" but they do continue. I saw an article yesterday where the head of OPEC (The Nigerian Oil Minister) said that oil would be at least $70 a barrel until the end of this year before it would start dropping. I'm sure there'll be some type of crisis over there to keep it higher. Hopefully someone will start some type of rumor that will make it drop, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

This whole pipeline is supposed to produce 2.6% of our supply and it makes the price go up $2/barrel? What a load. If usage went down 2.6% I can guarntee the price would not drop $2/barrell. It is a rigged game with the oil pigs raping us.

Why can't they/ didn't they just build a new line next to the one they are replacing? What do they need the old one for?

BP officials said they did not immediately know how much it would cost to replace the lines. The company made $7.3 billion in profit during the most recent quarter.

We better pass around a hat to collect money for the repairs, I don't know if the poor oilmen will be able to swing it on the measley 7.3B.

BP didnt make the price go up $2.00 a bbl, the speculators on Wall Street did. And for the last 30+ years usage hasnt dropped 1/10th of a percent, so how can anybody say that if usage actually did drop that the price wouldnt go down? Supply and demand.

They can and will build a new line, but until they get the field shut in and do extensive inspections, they wont know the extent of the corrosion and how much pipe will have to be relaid.

Can you hear it if BP would have left the pipeline in service and ended up with a massive environmental release? Somebody might have called them greedy oil pigs who have no concern for or about the environment, all they want to do is rape us.

I havent seen where BP is crying or begging for handouts to repair the line, have you?

acyually their CEO is an old hand at oil.
he did waht was right for the shut down to avaoid further complications after the feds orderd an inspection, then he said they had that leak and he made the decision to stop now and fix it before things got out of hand,
i am sure like most companies they were just one step ahead of the gove. mandating a shut down.
in my business, of environmental "issues" they are always bucking the line on wrong and right, and we are the gov.

i hate to see fuel go up, but wholly cow batman if they had spilled millions on the alaska slopes it would have been very ugly and teh tree huggin nuts would get stronger and we would be importing more oil and refined product.

what we need, if the supply is really not going to be interupted as bad as first thought..... big G needs to step in and price freeze. maybe -popcorn

hope we dont get another big hurricane in the gulf.

from bp
Release date: 08 August 2006
This statement was made today by Bob Malone, Chairman and President of BP America, Inc., at a press conference in Anchorage, Alaska.

"We deeply regret that it has been necessary to take this drastic action of an orderly and planned shutdown of the Prudhoe Bay oil field.

"On behalf of the BP Group, I apologize for the impact it is having on the nation and the State of Alaska.

"We will be working with State and Federal regulators on plans for the orderly and planned shutdown of Prudhoe Bay. I would like to thank the State of Alaska, Department of Transportation and Alyeska for their current and longer term support.

"In addition, we will be conducting a parallel study with the agencies to determine if it is possible to safely continue operating portions of the field.

"BP has committed the human and financial resources to complete all of this work as safely and quickly as possible.

"We have now taken the decision to replace the main oil transit lines at Prudhoe Bay. This will be accomplished as part of our overall plan for ensuring the integrity of the field.

"Our priorities moving forward are to assure the safety and integrity of our operating infrastructure, minimize impact on the environment, continue the cooperative working relationship with the relevant agencies and restore production as soon as it is safely – and I reinforce safely - possible."

THANK YOU. :hail

the oil companies haven't controlled their own destiny since the Nixon administration... that's why we haven't stood in gas lines like we did in the Seventies... it's called a free market economy... but for the consumer, ain't much free about it...

alaska
looks like the state wants to hold BP liable for loss of 6.4 million a day in revenues.....and they are wanting a hiring freeze .I throw up the BS flag NOW

"The expected loss of 400,000 barrels per day at today's oil prices means the state is losing about $6.4 million a day in royalties and taxes, Revenue Commissioner Bill Corbus said. The state receives 89 percent of its income from oil revenue"
