I was coming up a moderately steep hill in my 04' F-350 automatic when there was a loud bang that kinda sounded like a tire blowing out. The noise came from up under the hood. It immediately lost power and I had to put it in 1. It still barely pulled up the hill at about 10-20 mph floored. It was blowing heavy black smoke. The engine itself runs fine and sounds fine except for the turbo constantly whining as if its trying to spool up but cant. I'm thinking the turbo wasn't getting enough oil, got hot, and killed the bearings.
What do you guys think? Any suggestions to avoid the stealership since my warranty doesn't cover the turbo?
TIA
