I was coming up a moderately steep hill in my 04' F-350 automatic when there was a loud bang that kinda sounded like a tire blowing out. The noise came from up under the hood. It immediately lost power and I had to put it in 1. It still barely pulled up the hill at about 10-20 mph floored. It was blowing heavy black smoke. The engine itself runs fine and sounds fine except for the turbo constantly whining as if its trying to spool up but cant. I'm thinking the turbo wasn't getting enough oil, got hot, and killed the bearings.
What do you guys think? Any suggestions to avoid the stealership since my warranty doesn't cover the turbo?
TIA

make sure you clean up the boot and I/C tube really good with some brake clean.. any metal surface scuff up with some emery cloth and use some high tack silicone....will help keeping those parts togethter in the future....hope this helps

Then unless you have mods, the dealership would have been putting on a turbo at Ford's expense.

So if I just don't put the hose back on and drive it to the dealer like it is they would most likely put a new turbo on it?
