Ok, I put on a replacment hose for the orange turbo inlet today and took this picture just to see how things look. Can anyone tell me what is up with that one fin? The round thing on the blade below appears to be a trademark or something. But what about that big oily spot that looks like some of the fin has been removed??? If you look at it full size you see it looks to be something more than just oil on the blade. it looks like part of the blade is gone.

That doesn't look good. :sorry They say the stock airbox is crap. This must be why. Too bad you don't have a photo on the day you installed the Tymar to verify that it's not new damage.

Is this off your 97?? Looks like a 99+ compressor wheel. Looks like a mark from a paint stick or marker to me.

yep, stock wheel. I think it looks like material removal but it's hard to tell. I wish I could reach in there better and feel. That boot was such a PITA to get on I really dont want to take it back off.

That does look like a late 99-03 compressor wheel.

The round marks are from when the wheel was balanced. The nicks however are not good but will not cause big probs...just shows that some dirt has hit the vanes.:(

but what about that one blade on the left? it looks to have had a bunch of the surface removed.

Now that I think about this - when I moved to Lubbock in 2002 I had never heard the ebpv and when it started I took it to the local dealer. They were (and are) clueless so they threw on a new turbo thinking that maybe the turbo was going bad. (same place that said my description sounded liike the wastegate sticking). That must be why the wheel looks like the 99+.

That blade on the left is hard to make out....email me a full size version of it if you have a larger one so I can zoom in on it. It does look weird though.

They must've put a reman unit that had a later model wheel in it. Weird!

id say the leading edge of that one vane looks to be a bit rounded...
the others look to have sharper edges.

this is one of the problems w/ the aftermarket filters....you cant BREATH
more air w/out letting MORE DIRT in too...

if theres no bearing wear (check the end play) id leave it alone.
and id either put the stock air box back on or keep a VERY close
eye on the wear of the fins & the intake of dirt thru the filter.
