Rammertide07, Alcohol is a de-greaser and will take away any lubricity that is/was present with fuel only. You are running a a product that will remove the lubricant from the injectors and this will lead to failure. It has nothing to do with the flavors, that was a poor analogy, sorry.

Gasoline & Diesel fuel are 2 different Animals. So are the gaskets, seals, filter media and other components that are used in their fuel systems.

Gasoline IGNITES, Diesel Fuel DETONATES.. There IS.. a difference there.

Short Story:

I once dumped a "Small Amount".. of JP-5 in a GMC 6.2 diesel. JP-5 has an Anti-Icing inhibitor in it. It ATE the seals and gaskets and destroyed the Injector pump.

Look at the label on most any reputable Diesel fuel additive.. it will say: Contains No Alcohol.

Yer call tho.....

Joe

On edit. What Dave sez too.

Lol, thats quite alright Dave. I knew it was not a flavor dependent variable, I was just relating to your analogy. I'm not sure how much alcohol you can put into a cap...maybe a 1/10 of an ounce??? With this older model truck I'm sure its a dual tank with about 15gal per tank. So do you think that much alcohol per 15gal could have that much "drying" affect on the gaskets. Couldn't be no worse than the ULSD could it? I deffinately would not reccomend keeping alcohol in the fuel system.

JP-5...aint that jet fuel? I wasn't neccesarilly talking about anti-icing additive. I THINK Diesel Kleen's winter additive well help with that...or maybe its just the gelling part....hell idk. I was just talking about something to mix with the water and pass it through the system without major damage. Like I said...I have a 96 psd that has had this done maybe once every 2 years (not that often I have had water in my tanks) and the truck has 575,000 miles with no injector or gasket issues. Thats my experience not a suggestion or something I have heard through the grape-vine. I would not reccomend adding ANYTHING like this to a 6.0 as the injectors are more sensitive than that of the 7.3 .

Gasoline is a dry fuel and diesel is "slippery" fuel. I know cuz it got on the bottom of my shoe at a truck stop and when stepping on my running board i didn't have a good grasp on anything. Maybe I'm a moron, but I just can't see 1/10oz of a dry substance mixed with 15gal of a "slippery" substance drying anything out too soon, with minimal use.

EDIT: Also with my 96...about once of three months I put a gallon of gas per tank....still no issues.

I disconnected my batteries for maybe 5 minutes. How long do they need to be off to clear the computer? When I reconnected them the theft light blinked for 15 minutes or so. After the light quite blinking I tried starting it a couple of times and it's the same as before. The tach does come up just above 0 while cranking, not as high as it should be.

I drained the fuel bowl and refilled it with different diesel fuel. After a little cranking it fired up but it sounds like it has a dead cylinder with a top tap. I ran it for probable 5 minutes. It also smokes pretty heavy white and or blue. When I try picking up the rpms it will come up to 2000 about normal but won't go any higher.

check your compression. sadly it sounds as if you are not getting the compression you should which is why you need the additional heat of the glow plugs and the warm block from the block heater.
