My transfer case motor does not work. I can switch in and out using a wrench to turn the shaft on the transfer case and 4wd work great. I installed a new transfer case motor and it did not help.:dunno

Any advice? Which fuses are related?

Check the ESOF switch in the dash. Your fuses should be labeled on the inside of the fuse cover I think, see if you have a blown fuse.

If your fuses are ok get under your truck and look at the wiring harness where it goes around the crossmember and check for a bare or broken wire also. Mine did the same thing, and after I spent the money for a new motor and nothing worked I found that I had a wire that was just rubbed enough to ground everything out. Ifixed the wire, put my old motor on and returned the new one. 4wd works great.

cool thread! My t-case takes days to decide to switch back to 2wd from 4wd. I've put off buying a new motor because I can unlock my hubs manualy and not bind the front end. Looks like I'll be checking the wires under the truck. That's one of those things I tend to overlook. I know the fuse is good because it will go right into 4wd as soon as I hit the switch.

I have checked the fuses that appear to be related but do not know for sure wich one is for the ESOF. Anyone know if a fuse is related? Based on the function of the switch I would assume it is connected to a logic circuit and does not drive the motor directly.

The switch appears good, but the LED is open.
I'll describe the switch circuit in case some one needs the info in the future. The conector has 4 contacts, I'll call them A/B/C/D from left to right.
A/D are not switched but supply the LED for illumination of the switch.
B/C select a different resistor value when the switch position is changed.
The B/C contacts of my switch measured in ohms as follows;
2WD 3.9K
4x4 High 1105
4x4 Low 356

Another post mentioned the "codes we meesed up" but does not describe the fix. Can that be? How do you reset the system?

This is exacltly how my problem began. Finally it decided to stay in 4WD. FYI, you can pull the transfer case motor and take it out of 4WD with a 14mm wrench in a pinch.

Brandon,
I replaced the transfer case motor and that did not fix the problem. I guess it is possible that both old and new are bad. Do you know what "voltage" I should expect at the motor? I probed around some time ago and remember getting something (I should have wrote down my measurements) but was unable to determine if all was OK.
The motor has 2 connectors. Does anyone know the function of each? Where does the power or control signal come from? Would the service manual have a detailed schematic that would show this? I should probably buy one anyway.

A bunch of questions I know, but I appriciate the help and will reply with whatever fixes it so anyone else with the same problem can use the info.

take the motor off hook a 12 volt battery to it and see if it spins, if not the motor is bad. If it does turn then check the fuses in the fuse panel, if they are good, check your switch, if it is good there is a relay under the hood on the drivers side firewall beside the master cylinder, there are 2 relays on one bracket they are the same part #, just switch them around if it works you know you have a bad relay, if not then start tracing down wires and look for a short or a break. Trust me it sucks it took me almost a day and a half to find a broken wire on mine. Next truck will have a stick not a knob!

Igoug76,
The motor has 2 connectors on it. Do you know what connector or contact combination drive the motor? Polarity?
