Hello everyone long time reader first time poster. I get a lot of info from here, this place if very helpful.
It is time for a trans service for my truck I am just doing a fluid and external filter change. I can't seem to find anything saying how much fluid I will need to replace. Does anyone have any suggestions?

how many miles on your truck ?

whens the last time you changed
the by-pass filter ?

changing the fluid in the trans pan
is NOT ENOUGH

so by the factory manual & service you should be FLUSHING the trans
AND be on your 2nd by-pass filter !

read the links i sent you and your owners manual.

you need to change the transmission by-pass
filter (mounted up front, passenger side, under the radiators)

the trans pan only holds 7qts...and thats less than a 1/3 of
the total system capacity.

do the FULL flush...its easy !

Hey bush when your waiting for the old trans fluid to flush out.Now you've added the proper amount of new fluid to keep it full while its running and flushing can you distinctly tell when the old stuff is all out? Since your adding new trans to the old doesn't it mix together? Can you still see the difference..Sorry this will be my first time doing it and I want to do it right..

thanks

Since the the "flush" splits the fluid lines...the old is pumped OUT,
while your pouring the new IN.

does some OLD mix w/ the new...absolutely...but the only way
to avoid that would be to pull the converter and drain it.

this DIY fluid change is basically the same way any flush machine
would do it.

dont wait 100k miles and you likely wont have to be so concerned
about how OLD the fluid is thats mixing w/ your new fluid

the dealers are charging 300-400+ bucks to perform a flush that
you can do in your own driveway (in a similar manner) for less than
150 bucks.
