read the 2nd post. :sweet toyota claims it aint a recall.

it ain't
it's a "buyback" :watchout

I went through three of them when I worked for Honda.
One on Civics (front crossmember rotted), one on Accords (front crossmember rotted), the other on both Civic's and Accords (strut towers rotted & struts came through the hood).

That one was funny... you tell a customer "Honda will paint the hood and front fenders. Tell me now if you want an estimate of the rest of the car painted. The NEW PAINT WILL NOT MATCH your five year old car."

"No, just do the free stuff."

five days later... "How the hell am I supposed to drive a multi-colored car?"

our reply? "With your keys. We TOLD YOU the paint would not match. (muttering under our breath, "...You cheap-ass...")"

Didn't they start this buyback several months ago? I remember reading about it somewhere. I would like to get one that is headed for scrap so I could put the engine/trans/t-case in my 75' F250 and get some MPG out of it :sweet

They know there's an issue, are buying back at about 1 1/2 times book value, and not putting the vehicles back on the road. Seems to me they are doing the right thing.

you wouldn't get mileage then you'd likely get worse than you are now. that '75 is a heavy truck I'd guess at least 1.5-2X the weight of a taco.

Doing the Right Thing ??? I don't understand. An Auto Maker is buying back a defective product ?? At 1.5 times the Book ?? No NTSB bureaucratic intervention ?? No 1-800 number to call ?? Nothing on 20/20, 60 Minutes ?? I can't get inboard, even though I don't own one ?? No way to be able to make some Mega-Bucks on this ?? I know a guy who's SIL's neighbor had one.. I rode in it once.. Do I qualify ?? In any way ??

I don;t understand.

:D:sly;)

As radically "Made in America" as I am.. I'm proud of Toyota on this one ;tu ;tu

But would Ford ,Chevy, Dodge do the same thing????

Yes, Ford has a buyback program, but it's not on a grand scale like this one Toyota is doing.

It happens when a owner has repeated problems and when all else fail, Ford buys it back.

It's called a ReAquired Vehicle.

I'm no fan of any of the foreign automakers, but I will say that the domestic makers could learn a thing or two about customer relations from this. I've been down the buy- back / hire a lawyer / no one returns your calls/ too many re-calls/ get it in writing/ I never said that/ read the fine print/thats not our policy/ you pay the towing/ :watchout/ we need receipts/ what dealer did the work/ a mileage fee will apply:eek:/ we don't supply loaner vehicles:doh:/ road a few times and its no fun. A 95 Blazer the wife HAD to have comes to mind. And you just know Toyota is putting these folks right in another Toyota with a big rebate. Ford buys back at gun point and then tries the repairs again, and puts the truck back out for sale. I would imagine all the big 3 do that. That must be special, buying something that no one wanted. Or could deal with.

Yep, we pick 'em up and take them to a regional area dealership.
They are gone over and then sent to the local auto auctions for re-sale.
We handle about 25 states.

I agree. The Big 3 should be tracking Toyota on this. They probably are, but "they" are Sooo Big and Conglomerate/Bureaucratic.. They've lost sight of the End Product user: Us, the Consumer.

Luckily, I've never had to deal with any major Re-call/Buy back issues. I have, however, fixed or repaired alot of things I felt FORD should have.

I know guys with Toyota's, they Rave about the Customer Service, after Sale, they get. Don't hear that kinda thing from the Big 3 owners.:(
