Holy Powerstroke ,Toyota's going Texas, big-damn-time. The company is reportedly planning a "big diesel pickup" for the US market, though such a vehicle is likely three years away. Powering the torque monster will be a new big-block diesel V8 to be built at Toyota's new San Antonio, Texas plant at a rate of around 70,000 per year. A new high-efficiency V8 and a gas-electric hybrid version of the Tundra, though that task has proven difficult according to company president Katsuaki Watanabe.

that would be very interesting. most toy diesels have been L series engines- basically the 258 chrysler straight 6. they are about as durable as they come. those motors have logged gazillions of miles in the most rugged terrains. don;t neglect that canada had diesel land cruisers.

toyota HAS the diesel experience and know how. i don;t know about making the jump to a big block V-8 though.

i think that their sights might be beyond the pickup market. i could not see a big diesel getting crammed into the tundra though.

reading the source at edmunds though, ALSO says nissan is thinking about a diesel titan.

anyone remember the diesel mighty max's? or maybe the diesel troopers?

Toyota with a diesel! If they turnout to be like some of their past "bulletproof" trucks they will have me interested. I don't know though...Nissan builds a damn good truck too! :GRD

I got tired of putting head gaskets and transmission input/output bearings in the last three "bulletproof" Toyota's I owned... then throw in the rust...

Sorry, Kaz... not interested in giving you any money... I think I'll give it to Edsel... at least that way, I can say my new truck made the jocks in the Lion's locker room possible....

I have only ever owned the older straight axle yota's. I used them for wheeling only and they took one hell of a beating before they broke. They lasted a hell of a lot longer than my full size chev!
