I met up w/ Bartman last night and he helped me
flush my torqueshift...im happy to say the fluid looked
brand spankin' new and there wasnt a SPECK one
of metal on the drain plug.

the frame mounted filter was fairly gray (its doin' its
job)...this is the 3rd time ive changed the factory
by-pass trans-filter (in 52k miles)....that thing is a PAIN
to get off EVERY single time.

anyone need 5.5 gallons of OLD mercon sp ?? ;)

nah bush i left mine in the machine. My toilet paper roll was black as all get out and that sp stanks somethin fierce. The machine only holds 16 quarts so i pulled out all the old and added 2 more. If you had been headed back this way any time sooncould have gotten yers done too.

Why did my dealer and a couple of tranny shops here in Pensacola tell me they can't "flush" a Torqshift with a machine? My dealer said the techs just put in fluid, drop it, refill, etc... After reading this, I'm confused...

Heck if i know. I just emptied the machine of atf, refilled it with the sp and went to town. Hooked up to the tranny cooler lines just like you'd do on any other truck. The machines are real simple all they do is as the fluid flows through the lines it just swaps out old for new. From everything i've read you have to flush a torqueshift cause the torque converter will not drain you have to force the fluid out of it. Now it is expensive my buddy just got charged 275 to have a shop do his. I'd try some more calling around.

well like big rooster says...shops dont wanna flush it because theyd
have to empty their machine and put in trans fluid they probably
dont have on hand (or cant make much profit on).

the other thing thats important to realize is that no one really makes
money on Trans. Flushing...theyd rather wait til its broken and REPAIR
it or sell you a new one...that is after all their CORE business.

rooster...i agree for as clear as my fluid was it really had a pungent odor...
it smelled like gear lube (90w or 140w gear lube)...course it smells
that way NEW too.

Like I said a few days ago I had BTS do mine and he charged me about $180.00 for filters and Schaeffer's oil. The oil was $6.00 per Qt.

what filters did they change ? the pan filter is supposed to be a 100k
mile filter (needing change only if you find metal on the drain plug).

is the schaeffers synth ?

i paid 3.60 for the ford mercon sp (synth) which is suposedly the only
fluid that meets spec.

yeah, that's what I put in mine was SP. The dealer told me that the "thermostat" thingy in the lines prevented the flush.

I also heard the fluid needs to be heated in order to flush. Do some of the machines heat the oil ?

I changed mine by getting it up to operating temp and pull the plug . Drain all fluid out and refill with warm fluid. Remove line at external filter and start truck. Run untill fluid stops . Shut off and repeat.

Seems to work right . If thermostat is open it should get fluid to the cooler /external fliter . :thumbs

No, the theory behind that is the room temperature fluid will stay separate from the operating temp fluid... It should stay low in the pan, while the old stuff is being pumped out...

Thermal shock really isn't that big a deal at 100 degrees temp differential...
