The toilet paper roll i changed was in a black cannister on the passenger side of the engine. It was either a 13/16ths wrench or a 7/8ths dont remember but you just unscrew pull it out put the plastic cap and spring on the bottom. then slip the inner tube over the tranny line and screw the cannister back up. Mine was black but i unrolled it and couldn't find any metal at all so wh knows. When i flushed it i had it runnin at 2 gpm at 160 degrees flused real easy.

the factory bypass filter is a 22mm socket...the cannister "nut" size
is stamped w/ the size needed right in the bottom of the bypass cansister
housing.

it alos doesnt hurt to pre-soak/fill the new factory by pass filter before
you install it.

the threads on the canister are quite fine...and the bracket/lines
are rubber mounted...a nice air/impact hammer makes breaking
the filter "can" loose a MUCH easier job.

dont forget to replace the o-ring (thats included w/ the new filter)

im laughing at the excuses the dealers will use to avoid maint. work.
good lord !

when you pull the return line youll get fluid from BOTH SIDES of the
line so even IF the thermostat was closed youre STILL gonna get
"drain/flush" from both sides !

as for warming the fluid...the ambiant temp was 80 and the running
temp of the trans fluid was 150ish...plenty warm !

yeah, that's what I put in mine was SP. The dealer told me that the "thermostat" thingy in the lines prevented the flush.

I also heard the fluid needs to be heated in order to flush. Do some of the machines heat the oil ?

I changed mine by getting it up to operating temp and pull the plug . Drain all fluid out and refill with warm fluid. Remove line at external filter and start truck. Run untill fluid stops . Shut off and repeat.

Seems to work right . If thermostat is open it should get fluid to the cooler /external fliter . :thumbs

Yeah, Bush, that's what it seems like to me, now...getting out of work. The funniest thing is that I called them and asked how much it was because I was expecting to pay a couple of hundred bucks. But that still seemed worth it to clean up the tranny!

about 80 bucks for the fluid and poly hose @ the most (20qt @ 3.60ea)
plus the cost of the filters...why id pay a dealer 350+ to do the work
is beyond me.

Did you do this without a machine? If so, I need to know your way to do it, so I can do mine...thanks:sweet

Why did my dealer and a couple of tranny shops here in Pensacola tell me they can't "flush" a Torqshift with a machine? My dealer said the techs just put in fluid, drop it, refill, etc... After reading this, I'm confused...

As to a TorqueShift NOT being able to be flushed by a machine, I say

BULL!

My mechanic flushed it with a machine, he did have to empty out the old fluid halfway through because the machine wouldn't hold all of the old fluid.

I darn near fainted when I saw the bill for the fluid, though! Only available through the dealer, and I had to pay full price!

not true...and fwiw the price is coming down...i remember i bought
2 quarts in 2004 when i changed my first factory/bypass filter (the
one mounted up under the radiators)...i think i paid 8.50 if not 9.00
bucks per quart at the dealer (only play anyone could find it).

now the dealers have it for 5.19 a quart

i just bought 20 quarts of mercon sp at a local retailer for 3.60 per
quart...still cheaper than mobil 1 synth. motor oil....and still a significant
savings over the dealer price.
