Ive run into this problem a few times lately. If I get on the pedal to pass someone the truck feels like it jumps out of gear revs but wont go. Let off acc. and starts accelerating again but only if I go easy. I havent had any problems as long as it isnt a hard acceleration. Ive been told you can hear my torque convertor rattling. All I hear is diesel engine. It doesnt feel like slipping, I know what that feels like. Any ideas?

Another thing I found is that at times it feels like Im pulling a heavy load, other times it kinda surges. At forty to fifty it feels like its a little jerky.

Are there issues that would show up on a scanner?

Try a quality scanner first. There could be an array of issues from what you described, but if you can't differentiate a rattle from your normal powerstroke music then I doubt I can be of much help.

Do you have gauges? If so, what are your boost readings? If they aren't normal or you don't know maybe you have a boost leak. The surge could be turbo stall or surge, describe this for us more in detail.

A T/C failure is common, but that means removing the trans. You want to rule out other more basic things before you go tearing into the trans!

I can get access to a good quality Snap On scanner. Ill ask for it tomorrow.

The rattle was pointed out to me by an ex Dealership Diesel mechanic. I would have never noticed if he hadnt of pointed it out. He told me he thought he remembered a recall on them at one time. Too late for me.

No, I dont have gauges.

My money is on the torque converter. You have the dreaded 99 model.

If it were me, I would plan on having the tranny gone thru with a new t/c put in for sure.

I scanned earlier. Found no memory codes. The KOEO test found P0605 Internal Control module rom error.

The switch test said I had P1780 Trans control SW out of range.

Anyone know what those two codes are?

On a side note, Ive started looking at torque converters. Just incase. I got a price of $385 for a OEM convertor. I got a quote for a B-D for $795 and Suncountry is $1295. What makes the SC worth that much more? That's not even installed. Just wondering?

I bought the PI Torque Converter from BTS, the shop that WD40 posted the link to. BTS and Suncoast have great names and products. I'm no tranny man at all but I know if you buy a cheap one - you'll replace it down the road again....

The torque converter from BTS was like putting a chip in my tranny.

Expensive - yes
worth the money - yes
would I do it again - definitley yes
