Hey guys,

I am new to this forum, and wish my first post could be a positive one. I recently purchased an 06 F-350 with the 6.0 and torqshift (90k miles). The engine has the ARP head stud kit, but other than that, the truck is pretty much stock (in regards to drivetrain). I am also running a mild tune (40 hp).

Yesterday while getting on the interstate, the truck went into limp mode, and the tow/haul light started to flash. I pulled the truck over, and turned it off. Upon restarting the truck, everything went back to normal. I continued home and did not have any more trouble.

This morning I went to my local diesel shop, and they checked the computer, which showed the transmission "missed a shift" which caused the tranny to go into limp mode. Afted my mechanic took the truck for a test drive, he noticed a slip between 4th and 5th gear, and also noticed a shutter when the truck was put into reverse. Also, the truck takes about 5 seconds to engage into D or R when taken out of the Park position.

I am leaving the truck parked untill my mechanic can look at the transmission on Monday. What I want to know is whether anybody has any experience with this type of trouble, and how much $$$$$ I am looking to spend to fix this problem...I am expecting the worst, but hoping for the best! Any advice/imput would be greatly appreciated!

First off... WELCOME to SDD.com. ;tu

Secondly.. Is the Transmission fluid level where it should be ? Has it been serviced lately ? And if it was, what type & brand of fluid was used ?

It was serviced not too long ago, and the fluid is where it should be. I don't remember the grade of fluid, but it is Amsoil and the service was done by a powerstorke specialist.

These symptoms are fairly new which leads me to believe it is an internal problem.

Well then.. Monday will probably tell the tale.

The symptoms you described are fairly common ones here on SDD.. everything from, VSS (vehicle speed sensor) to Torque Converter issues.

Maybe another SDD member will jump in ?

Keep us Posted ?

amsoil makes me nervous that transmission is only supposed to have the specified fluid
I am not aware of an Acceptable amsoil substitute

this could very well be the issue

Just changed the fluid...same symptoms...I am thinking it is something internal. I hear a rattle coming from the transmission while my foot is on the brake and the truck is in drive. Maybe the torque convertor? I think this is going to be expensive!

the required for atf is synthetic mercon SP stuff.

mercons SP and other fluids very often results in crazy situations inside the gear box.

it would be helpful if we knew if they FLUSHED the entire tranny system when the amsoill went in....

its sort of like the TRASSYND for allison transmissions
there is only one company that makes it and that is castrol. and the others haven't met allisons standards.

AMSOIL - Synthetic Fuel Efficient Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATL)
amsoil says they meet the sp requirement...... so i would ask if a complete flush was done

park to drive or reverse is a common issue that can be fixed easily with a reflash, and the one that fixed it first was back in 06.
i would ask if your ecm has the most up to date programing,
40hp tune shouldnt scream problems...
but you just recently purchased it....arp studs,......do you have any idea what its service life was like before you purchased the truck? I.E. was it chipped/tuned before you? you can see where this is going....maybe it was fried before you got it...

actually SP is discontinued

so there is only one other fluid approved by Ford for this tranny it is the new LX
and Valvoline states their HIGH mile ATF is compatible but is not certified by ford last time I checked ,,
