I am thinking of going to 19.5 or 22.5 wheels for my dually.

Anyone have some thoughts on this. Pros and cons of such.

I pull a gooseneck on a regular basis. I am looking for the mileage and durability not the show aspect of this conversion.

Do any of you guys have info to share

im sure youll find several that have THOUGHT about it....
but the initial cost is pretty steep....even for painted steel
wheels youll be looking at 1000 bucks PLUS....powder-coated
wheels are more and alum. will run you 2000+

and the tires arent cheap either...500-1000+ for four.

heres a few...

Rickson Truck Wheels and Accessories
Ford 19.5" maximum force dual wheel conversion kits with wheels
Truck Adaptor & Wheel - Chromewheel.com Main Page

i personally wouldnt run ANY wheel that required an adapter.

Cost is killer with 22.5 tires. Virgin rubber tires are usually around 200-300. I don't believe you will recover the cost of the conversion.

IIRC With a 22.5 the shortest low profile tire you can get is 36" and you'll need to lift it which isn't too user freindly with a GN

There are some 8 lug 19.5 wheels that won't need adapters available with 8 on 6.5" or 8 on 170mm patterns. You could run a 245 / 70 - 19.5 which is about 33" tall and cost about $150 and up depending on brand and tread syle.

some great points...

isnt the entire reason of moving to 19.5 or 22.5 wheels/tires
the tire choice issue...for longevity / tread life ? goin' CHEAP
kinda defeats the purpose of making the move to these wheels.

personally having gotten 67k outta my OE BFG A/T's makes me happy...
paying another 100 bucks (PER TIRE) to get 100k outta a tire doesnt
seem like a win to me.

How about the added stress that will be put on the brakes and suspension parts from the bigger tires and wheels. I just can't see where you would recover the cost of the larger wheels and tires.

Increasing the tire height will also hurt you. Unless you go with low-profile tires, you will actually lose some torque accelerating from a stop. You will burn more fuel getting the rig moving, which defeat the purpose.

IMHO, its all about making your truck look like a BIG RIG.

Thats it. People see a pick-up with big rig tires, and they go WOW, thats cool.

Its all about the COOL factor.

67k is crazy, I get 16 - 20 on my 10 ply, thats with a commercial rated tire which has 3ply sidewall.

The reason for my possible upgrade would be for extended life of the tire. I was told to expect about 100-150 on the 19.5 and about 150-200 on the 22.5 tires.:dunno
