What the heck do you need a D9 for? My neighbor next to my shop is an excavation company and has a couple D8's and many D4-D6. Just curious of your use.

I am a sucker for good deals. It's a 1984 that a guy does not need anymore. I have not seen it, so I will check it out before I buy it. I plan on buying another ranch, and a D9 can move a lot of earth. Last time at the ranch in Oregon, I hired a guy with a D8 to dig out a pond. On a ranch, the D9 would have a lot of uses. It is a 1984, not a 1994. I will only buy it if everything is in good shape. Just about anything on a Cat is very expensive to repair. Also it is not cheap to transport the Cat from one place to another.

I would love to have a D3 or D4 to do some work on my place. I haven't found any good deals on one or I would have it. They can be fun to play with but at $300.9 per gal diesel you had better be getting some work done. LOL

How old is it? If it is a newer model I think with the blade and ripper it will be around 105,000. Who told you it weighed 70,000? They were not even close.

I thought it was closer to 90k. Seemed to me from browsing the Cat site that that a DX weighs X x 10k pounds so a D4 is 40k, and a D11 is 110k.

Back when I was a kid we had a International TD18A on the ranch and it would move a ton of dirt but since it was almost a antique it was also usually broke down. A good deal is not a good deal if you have to put money in it every time you use it. Be sure to check it over very good including all the drive train. Every little part on a Cat is very expensive. A buddy of mine that has a Goldmine up North has a D9 and it seems like he is always working on it. If the unit you are looking at seems to be a very good deal then I am guessing that it is wore out, inside and out.

What were you doing with it? Normally on a Dozer adding 100hp would just spin the tracks. Cat designs there dozer's so that the hp is relevant to traction but if you were in a high traction application like packed dirt rather than loose dirt, gravel or rock then the hp was probably usable. The D8 is about 20,000lbs lighter than the D9 and that is alot of contact pressure.

in college, i was at a pipeline job. 8 D9s running pipelayers. 6 were heeled over towards the trench lifting the pipe. kinda freaky.

forget the purchase price. the prices you want to look out for is going to be any repair bills.

Our truck will pull 15,000 lbs.
Our car trailer is good for 10,000 lbs. minus weight of trailer 2000 lbs. =8000 lbs.

Just got a call, and can get a great deal on a D9 Cat.
It weighs 70,000 lbs. ,,, just 62,000 lbs. over my trailer.
55,000 lbs. over my truck.

Hey Bama,,, numbers just don't add up...

Guess I am going to have to hire a big truck

dont think i can help ya there max. that thing weighs all most as much our trucks when they are loaded, but of course, you knew that allready
