Hi Gang,
I have been working a 2000 F-350 Crew Cab 7.3 Diesel project for the last 2 1/2 months I had driven on the road few times while rebuilding the body, it ran fine, tonight I thought I was finished. I was so happy, had planned to drive it to work tomorrow so I took it out for one last test drive, when I turned on the 4 lane I got on it pretty good but nothing unusual just to feel the power and get up to speed, all at once it lost most of the power, started a tapping sound and smoking like the whole street was on fire. I think the traffic behind me had to stop and wait for the smoke to clear. Also it has a heavy diesel fuel smell. Can someone give me some advice as to where to start. Is the motor blown or could it be something else? Thanks for any help you can give. :dunno:(

Did you fill the intersection with White or Black Smoke?... Black would lead to the Loss of boost as mentioned earlier, White could be several things, Loss of H-Pop, or Blown Rings on an injector, this could introduce coolant to the cylinder, that would give you a ton of white smoke , and most likely pop a head gasket... also another thing to check... the smell... you may have popped a fuel line to either side... the O rings that feed the line have been know to go bad over time.

Me again Cregg101

Inter Cooler Boot.. X3

OK here is what I found this evening after work. I pulled the injectors from the left bank which did unlock the engine, all o-rings looked good, I didn't find any water in cylinders but there seemed to be a lot of fuel in one or more cylinders. Now i'm uncertain of what to do next, because the smoke was white and not black.

Is it possible one or more injectors could be stuck open dumping extra fuel into the cylinder? And if so why did I have white smoke:confused:

But again I am new to deisel trouble shooting :dizzy so I am open to ideas :dunno

Thanks

If it was hydro'd with fuel.. and you haven't had time to work on it.. the fuel may have leaked down into the CC. What does yer oil level look like ?

White/Grey smoke can also be un-burnt fuel.

The injector O rings may "look" good.. but under high oil and fuel pressure.. That, could be another issue ?

I checked the oil level a few days ago when i parked it and it was fine, I will check again in the morning.

How about my question about the stuck injector dumping extra fuel in, is that possible? I'm not sure how they work and if that is possible or not.

It's entirly possible too.. that an injector (or two) failed.. dumping fuel in to the cylinder(s).

Yer call, but it might be time for a new set of injectors.
