Swapping PCM's into Early 99?

FWIW I have talked to Jody extensively about swapping the PMT_ family of PCMs into the early 99, he says that it will greatly improve the truck. I have bought one(PMT2) and plan on sending it to DP as soon as I get it to have Jody tune it and add his chip to it.
He assures me that I will be very happy with it, can't wait!

The one I'm looking at is VDH5 from an 02? He says it's from an 02 4x4 auto.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting everything...let me rephrase the question. Take the chip/tune/tuner out of the question..assuming stock for stock, do I still want to pay the money to get the better PCM?

The way I understand, yes stock-for-stock the later PCM will work. Now I'm no expert by any means but I have been researching and reading on different forums about this swap.
My advise is to call Jody at DpTuner and ask him, he IS the expert!
He can and will tell you your options, VERY helpful gentleman!

On edit: He actually said that he could take the early XLE_ and re-flash it to be very close to the PMT1!
That might be an option you could consider. Call him!

Talked to Jody and in 02 they made a bunch of changes to the PCM and it will NOT work. The dash cluster will not work, AC will not work, and the CEL will be on all the time. The correct code to look for is DPC-422. He did tell me about the reflash...something I am going to consider.

Turns out dude had one with the correct code and is willing to trade me straight up for mine Gonna make sure it work in my truck then possibly send it off to Jody if I don't notice any difference before I ship mine to him

Ive got an early '99, the PCM as related to trans. shifting, was horrible, the first thing i did was to ask the diesel mech at ford to reflash my pcm and that helped a ton. Then I called Jody and asked about reflashing my pcm for the 40hp towing tune, He told me that i had to update my pcm to the pmt. Im glad that i did it shifts alot better and am happy with the 40 hp towing tune and the way the trans shifts.
