Truck was at dealers today to have camera replaced.
Was due for oil change so told them to do that as well. Told me when they went to loosen drain bolt, they could tell it was stripped??

They are saying oil pan needs replaced at just under $500.00

Anyone had any luck retapping threads??

Not sure I trust them to do oil pan replacement.

Drain bolt...........

The threads in the pan are usually harder than the threads on the bolt. Over the years I've had bolts strip the threads and a simple tap to clean the pan threads and a new bolt fixed it. Other times I've had to get an oversized bolt to fix the problem. Parts stores sell oversized pan bolts that have a thread cutter built right on the end of it.

Plug or bolt, i think we know what he's talking about. I've never seen pipe threads on an oil pan. Pipe threads bind tight to make a seal. Oil pan drain PLUGS always have a washer type seal and fine threads.

I'd suggest putting a Fumoto valve on whatever solution you end up with. No more drain plug removal...no chance of stripping.

I have been running the Fumoto valve since my truck was new (late 2003). I love it and no problems. :)
