Fords are notorius for soft feel. If it got loose, ball joints, tie-rod ends. Go for a new steereing stabilizer too. That'll help

Soft Steering

Thats what I was thinking also, Try a new steering stabilizer first, Won't hurt to have a new one if you have a few miles on her.

bad relief valve in the pump maybe? System overpressure? How are your brakes? Overly touchy or same?

Have you checked the alignment? It it wants to go past center from a turn, I'm almost wondering if something shifted on you. But the comment above about changing the damper would be the first place to start. Without knowing the mileage on the truck, I'd bet that would tighten things up drastically. if it finally lost it's charge of oil/gas, it wouldn't provide any damping to steering movement.

they're what, 20 bucks? Save the pump till later. Try the cheap stuff first.

I had a similar problem in my Tahoe. I could steer the truck with my pinky at any speed. It was scary on the highway. I think it was a speed senor of some kind. Sorry I cant remember excact part. When the part failed it kept the power steering real soft even at high speeds. Hope this helps.
